Lenora Krueger Obituary

Lenora Ann Krueger Lenora Ann Krueger, 81, of Van Vleck, Texas, passed away November 7, 2024. She was born February 20, 1943, in Cameron, Texas, to Louie Wesley and Nellie Grey (Hildebrandt) Malone. She spent her childhood on the family farm helping pick peas and tomatoes which her father sold at markets. Her mother worked as a tailor for local residents.

Lenora graduated from Milano High School in 1961 and attended Southwest Texas State Teacher's College with encouragement from her high school principal who insisted that she go to college. She met her husband, Douglas Krueger, who was from Taylor, Texas. They graduated from college in May 1965, got married in July, and were hired by Van Vleck ISD in August.

Lenora was a teacher for 45 years. She taught Homemaking for High School initially before moving to Junior High School where she taught 6th, 7th, and 8th grade Reading and Language Arts, and Homemaking as an elective. She retired May 11, 2012.

Lenora was active in her community and shared her many hobbies and talents. She made and sold crafts at a gift store in Van Vleck. She was a member of Van Vleck Methodist Church and helped with all the activities including coordinating crafts for Bible School for many years. She was a member of a local teacher's sorority called Alpha Delta Kappa Texas Pearls that sponsored a scholarship for a Senior from the community each year. Her hobbies included reading books, sewing clothes, making quilts, cross stitching, canning vegetables from Doug's Garden, baking treats for neighbors during holidays, scrapbooking, and going on trips with friends. She loved spending time with her grandchildren, taking them swimming, to the beach, and going to their ballgames.

Lenora is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and her sister Wanda June Baker. She is survived by her daughter, Marla, and husband Joe Bermea of Pflugerville, TX; her grandchildren, Joseph Bermea of Laredo, TX, and Jacen Bermea of Pflugerville, TX.

The family will receive relatives and friends from visitation at 9:00am Monday, November 18, 2024, at Taylor Bros. Funeral Home in Bay City, Texas. I remember Lenora as a teenager and young adult when she lived in the Milano area and her sister June. We often visited her family on weekends for domino games and family gatherings and on family "hen parties" when there was a quilting bee. I´ll never forget my mother, aunts and Wanda June all making their own dresses and aprons etc. I was 10 when Lenora graduated from high school and I didn´t see much of her after she graduated but was always glad to see her when I did. I also remember June going to Tennessee with my family on vacation and my mother had a picture of June posing at the gate of Elvis Presley´s Graceland with the groundskeeper. We couldn´t go in because Elvis was away on tour but June was ecstatic. I was really sick about June passing away so young but she was allowed to pass peacefully at home with her family so that was a small comfort for her.
Rest in Peace Lenora and June. You are missed by everyone who knew you.
