Jay Halverson Obituary
Jay C. Halverson, age 90, went home to be with the Lord September 18, 2008. He was born in Lucerne Mines, Pennsylvania on November 29, 1917. Mr. Halverson retired from Ohio Bell after 38 years of service. He was a member of St. Jacobs Lutheran Church, Akron Men's Garden Club, Telephone Pioneers of America, Telephone Foreman's Club, and the Wednesday Senior Traveling Golfers. Preceded in death by his wife, Virginia in 2000; daughter, Dorothy "Dusty" Hershman in 2008. He is survived by daughters Donna (Doug) Woessner, and Doris (Larry) Stimpfle; grandchildren, Karla (John) Wood, Jeff (Chrystal) Maranville, Matthew (Sonia) Maranville, Joel (Kim) Hershman, Lance Hershman, and Jesse (Heather) Hershman, Lisa (Erik) Hayes, and Megan (Peter) Clifford; son-in-law, Dave Hershman; 22 great grandchildren; and brother, Robert H. Halverson of Somerset, PA. Funeral services will be held Tuesday 11 a.m. at St. Jacobs Lutheran Church, 1460 State Street NE, North Canton, with Pastor Leah Schafer officiating. Interment at Mt. Peace Cemetery in Hartville. Friends may call at the Hopkins Lawver UNIONTOWN Funeral Home, 3553 Northdale Street, 1 block NW of the square of 619 & Cleveland Avenue, Monday 4-7 p.m. and Tuesday at the church one hour prior to service time. The family suggests memorials to St. Jacobs Lutheran Church or Bethany Lutheran Church, 833 Carroll Street, Akron, 44305.
