Joseph Slaughter Obituary

Joseph S. Slaughter
Age 45, of Canton. Many would see his life as a burden, but to our family he was the most precious gift we could have ever received. From early on in his life he became the center of such a special love for our family. He helped us stay together when life was difficult. He loved us deeply no matter what. He smiled and lit up the room whenever you walked in to see him. Joey was truly our little angel. Early Monday, Dec. 13, Joey finished a strong race of 45 years, crossing the finish line into the arms of his Lord and Savior, Jesus, and now also walks hand in hand with his daddy in Heaven. Preceded in death by his father, John Slaughter; paternal grandparents, Joe and Emmy Lou Slaughter; and maternal grandparents, George and Esther Walker.
Survived by his mother, Sharon Slaughter, of the home; his sister and brother-in-law, Amy and Jeffrey Bandi, of Canton; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Jeffrey and Robin Slaughter, and their children, Dylan, Brittany, and Jaclyn, of Buckingham, Va., and Randy and Julie Slaughter, of North Canton; two special aunts, JoAnn Slaughter Thompson, and Diane Walker Bartchy; and six cousins.
There will be no calling hours or services. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to: Central Virginia Christian School, 164 Industrial Park Drive, Dillwyn, VA 23936. The Formet-Clevenger & Gordon Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Dear Sharon, Jeff, Randy & Amy - my heartfelt sympathy to you as you mourn the loss of Joey. I remember visiting with him several times many years ago, while hanging around Jeff and your wonderful family - he always had a smile to share! I always admired the love and care each of you showed to him. My thoughts and prayers are with you during this very difficult time. I know he is resting safely in the arms of Jesus, and I know you find comfort in that. God bless!

Dear Sharon,
I remember the mornings numerous years ago when you and I covered the south door to the scantuary and greeted people as they came into church. When traffic was light we would share our lives with each other. You always so lovingly spoke of Joey that I began to feel I knew him too. You never complained about how much care he was. My heart goes out to you with your loss but I'm sure that Joey is talking with Jesus and telling Him what a wonderful mother he had who loved him with all her heart. My prayers are with you.
