Mr. Barrick was my favorite teacher in ALL my years of schooling. I can barely express the gratitude I have for this man, that gave me my love of reading and searching for knowledge. He always encouraged me to ask, ask ask questions.
I will never forget him or the friend that I got to make in his son Jason. Your father touched so many lives and please be proud of where you came from as well as where you are.

Jason (Jake), & family,
I have been meaning to send you my condolences. We actually just buried my Father on Tuesday so understand. Have not talked to you for awhile since maybe you were in Vegas. I just loved your Dad. He was a great friend and also a great teacher. I had him in 7th grade at Taft, as did my sister Vickie. She loved him to and sends her condolences. He actually got me started collecting old newspaper headlines. His picture posted here, is pretty much the way I remember him sitting at his desk in front othe class. I miss seeing him walking around the neighborhood. Had not seen him for awhile and wondered if he was doing OK. My family's sympathy goes out to you guys. Your Dad will not be forgotten by so many. God Bless.

Mr. Barrick was my first male teacher. It was 6th grade at Edgefield Elementry. I also had the privelege of having him in 8th grade for English. He was the best teacher I had! He truly loved his work and it showed as he taught us in the classroom. He started every morning with current events with newspaper clippings. For many of us that was our only source of what was happening in our world. He took a very insecure girl and made me feel like I mattered. All who were fortunate to have him for their teacher were truly blest. Thank you Mr. Barrick.

Loved Mr. Barrick for his great knowledge and intriguing stories. I was one of his group leaders at front row of five rows of seats at various points. I fondly remember morning openers as he called them and these were those personal stories of life he told. Custer's Last Stand is one that sticks out the most. I was in 7A in 1981-82 school year at Taft Middle School. He taught English. His warm and tender soul I'd see in following years in Canton from his walks on Cleveland Ave. to seeing him in Marc's or Johns Bar. Evidently I somehow left an impression with him as well as when my own father passed away Jan. 19 this year, Mr. Barrick took it upon himself to look up my mothers address upon seeing my father's obit. here in The Rep. sending to her a personal handwritten note about how sorry he was and what great parents I had. It was a very big surprise to find that letter in the mail from him out of the thousands of students he had in his years of teaching to remember me. Bless you and RIP Mr. Barrick

Vern and I met Roger and Ruth nearly forty years ago and found him to be an intelligent, interesting man who loved learning and loved teaching. He was always a pleasure to discuss many things with and he was also gracious and fun. He has lived a long and fruitful life his way, as we would all wish for ourselves. We are sure he will rest in peace.

The Barrick house was one of our favorite stops on Halloween night- many a time I was scared out of my wits by Mr Barrick jumping out of the bushes in a mask!
So sorry for your loss Mrs Barrick and boys- he and my father are probably warming up their walking sticks together right about now!

We are very sad to hear the news of Mr Barrick's passing. As a graduate of Plain Local and a bartender at TGIFridays and Peter Shears, I received many-many of his special tokens- silver dollars with hs seal, and I still have every one of them. They are so much more special now.
To his family, you're in my thoughts and prayers.
