Aunt Debbie, Jillian, and Terry,
Corey and I are very sorry for your loss.
We'll all miss your father.
Growing up, and attending gatherings with our families, there were always so many kids running around that I never really had any in-depth conversations with Terry. We'd briefly chat about hunting, or Ohio State, but not much else, and the other cousins and me would soon be off running again.
It was not until I was back home over the past holidays that I was able to nail Terry down.
I got to talk to him about where he was from in Campbell; we looked at the exact house he grew up in on Google Maps (above the family bar); he showed me the other house the family moved to and the exact streets he used to walk to school. He pointed to the ally where he used to sled ride down toward the steel mills. We looked up the VanSuch name on Ancestry.com and traced some of the family lineage...it was awesome to get to know him better.
I got to see his eyes light up when he talked about how he met Aunt Debbie...about how she was cutting grass in the backyard of Iroquois in Struthers.
Growing up, you don't appreciate family history as much as you should...you don't appreciate the fact that Terry went away to Ohio State, but returned home to Campbell to work at the family bar after his own father died. You don't appreciate what people go through in their lives until you get more perspective later on in your own life.
Uncle Terry, thanks for always being there for your family and the entire Popovich/VanSuch family.
We'll all miss you very much.
Love,
Robbie, Corey, Riley & Owen Chance
