Thomas Holding Obituary

Thomas Holding
Age 79, died peacefully at his home in Sharonville, Ohio, on Sept. 11, 2010. Born July 26, 1931 in Wigan, England, Tom was evacuated from war-torn Britain in August 1940 along with 84 other children of Hoover Company employees. He and his brother, Cyril (d. 2003) were placed in the Canton home of the T.K. Harris family; both boys became US citizens and were joined in Canton after the war by their mother, Alice (d. 2002). Tom graduated from Lehman High School in 1949 and from Case Institute of Technology in 1953, then served two years with the US Army in Ramstein, Germany. His subsequent career as an engineer at Goodyear was cut short in 1983, when he was hit by a car while crossing a street, suffering a traumatic brain injury from which he never completely recovered.
He is survived by his daughter, Robin Holding of Santa Monica, Calif.; two sons, Christopher J. Holding of Canton and Thomas B. Holding of West Chester; former wife, Stella Holding of Cincinnati; three granddaughters; one grandson; and devoted home caregivers, Helen Jenney and Kim Abner.
Respecting Tom's wishes, no services will be held. Those wishing to honor his memory are invited to contribute to the Brain Trauma Foundation http://www.braintrauma.org

I have fond memories of Tom from our childhood on. Tom and I were classmates in Worley grade school in Canton as well as Lehman High School. I was in touch with him again from time to time after I moved back to Canton in 2004. He will be sadly missed. My sympathies to his family.
