He was also a member of Storm Trysail Club. After retirement he moved to Venice, Florida, where he was an officer in Venice Sailing Squadron and continued yacht racing until recent years. I was thinking of Emory and when I did not receive his usual Christmas card, I searched online and found this site. To Diane and Emory's family, please accept my and my family's condolences. I am saddened by his death.

Emory was my parents' (Addison and Eleanor Van Wagner) next door neighbor in Venice, and a good friend to all. He was there when my mother was dying in 2008, and he came to my dad's surprise 90th birthday party in 2010. Best neighbor ever!, according to my mom. I loved hearing Emory's stories of sailing the Med. It seems like he had been everywhere and had friends everywhere. What an extraordinary life journey!

The photo shows Emory in 1954 in the fourth grade. As you can see, he was always happy and smiling. He will be missed.

Wow, what an extraordinary man... Emory's life was full of outstanding accomplishments and adventure. It amazed me how Emory did not let his kidney failure hold him back from enjoying his blessings. I often think of the day we toured Richmond and found Emory's childhood neighborhood, and, of course, the first evening we shared wine, old memories and laughs in Venice. Emory was a very special friend, and I promise to think of him often.

Emory will be greatly missed by us and I know we will forever cherish his kindness, cooking, and humor. He was one of a kind! Emory was always willing to teach many life lessons. From, putting together chairs, to handling tough life situations. He was the strength for many and will be missed by everyone. Diane we love you dearly and very saddened by the news. It is difficult to even write this right now. Hard to face. Emory has brighten every aspects of our life. From Christmas, to Ocean City and gossip music.
