'Coach Jamie,' Devoted Husband and Father
Jamie (Benjamin) 42, of Olney, Maryland, who was born in Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania, passed away on Saturday, July 28, after a brief but courageous battle with cancer. He fought bravely, was loved by many and will be greatly missed.
Jamie was a steadfast, generous, caring and patient husband, father, son, big brother, uncle, nephew, son-in-law, brother-in-law, cousin, friend and teammate. He will be remembered as a fiercely competitive, effortlessly athletic, passionate sports fan who was singularly devoted to his wife and family. In fact, Jamie found his true calling in fatherhood -- joyfully raising three bright, kind and talented sons (now 13, 11 and 8 years old) with his wife, best friend and partner in all things, Kelly. His business smarts, ability to connect with people and innate charm earned him the respect and trust of his co-workers and clients alike as a project manager at R.R. Donnelly, where he worked for 18 years.
A natural leader and mentor in sports and in life, "Coach Jamie" also generously shared his time and expertise working with all levels of players in multiple sports over the years at the Olney Boys and Girls Club (OBGC) and St. Peter's. He was a beloved member of many communities over the course of his life, from his childhood in West Chester and Sellersville, PA, to Penn Ridge High School and James Madison University, and Olney, Maryland, where in many ways he became the heart of the neighborhood over the past 8 years.
Jamie's family and friends will remember the good times they shared cheering on the Boston Red Sox, Philadelphia Eagles and 76ers; riding waves in Lavallette, New Jersey and Corolla, North Carolina; trying to keep up with him on the slopes of Killington; enjoying his favorite meal of fresh lobster in Maine; watching him coach countless soccer, basketball, and baseball teams; driving his cherished, iconic Jeep Wrangler with DMB on the stereo; relishing epic Disney vacations, where he was the master of hitting all the best rides; dancing to DJ Jamie's rockin', expertly curated playlists; and enjoying laughs at local breweries where Jamie continued his quest for the perfect IPA.
To know Jamie was to love him; he had a sharp wit, a level head and the kind of quiet charisma that made people feel better just being around him. To his core, Jamie was a good man, and he made it look easy.
Jamie is survived by his wife of 16 years, Kelly McCarthy Singleton, whom he first met when they were both sophomores at James Madison University in Harrisonburg, Virginia, and their three sons JJ, Danny and Frankie. Jamie is also survived by his mother, Louise Donohue (Jim Malatesta), father, Benjamin Singleton (Judy) his mother-in-law Betty McCarthy, godparents Pat Demme and Rob Donohue, and his sister Kelsey Donohue. Blessed with a large and loving family, Jamie also leaves behind many aunts and uncles, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews and cousins. He will live on in the memory of all who knew and cherished him.
