John Henry Dammeyer, of Annapolis, Maryland, passed away on August 10, 2022. He was born in Annapolis, Maryland, on March 12, 1930, to the late Henry J. Dammeyer and Lucile Perry Dammeyer. He was married to his wife Ann Douthat Dammeyer for 55 years until her passing. They were married at their alma mater the University of Maryland. John is survived by his children Susan Goddard (Roy), Steve Dammeyer (Sue) and Peggy Dammeyer (Kathy). He is also survived by his brother Bill Dammeyer (Mary Alice). He was the loving grandfather of Michael Goddard, Beth Goddard, Dr. Christopher Dammeyer (Merritt), and Katie Dammeyer. He is also the proud great grandfather to Maeve Dammeyer. He was uncle to many beloved nieces and nephews. He grew up on Archwood Avenue in Annapolis. John and Ann lived in Louisville, Kentucky, and Landover, Maryland, before moving their family to Annapolis in 1962. As a young high school graduate, he joined the US Naval Reserve and visited Istanbul, Turkey, and the Island of Rhodes. After being honorably discharged from the US Army in 1956, he was employed by the Southern Railway System in Washington, DC. Soon after, he began a 30-year career in US Government Procurement with multiple Federal agencies, NSA, NASA, EPA, and he retired from the Department of Commerce where he served as the Head of Procurement Policy and Review and Assistant Chief of Procurement. He was later employed by the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority, retiring in 1992. John enjoyed being with his family and friends. He enjoyed the friendship of many during his career and stayed close to those from Annapolis High School (class of 1948) and College Park (class of 1954). For 45 years, he enjoyed taking the family for a weekly summer stay at Ocean City, Maryland. He enjoyed cultural arts programs at local venues such as Maryland Hall and the South County Concert series as well as trips to Washington, Baltimore, and New York City. In his retirement years, he travelled to Ireland and France. He was a member of St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church, Civitan Club, Elks Lodge, University of Maryland Alumni, the Terrapin Club, and the Kappa Alpha Fraternity. He volunteered with Meals on Wheels, Annapolis Civitan Club fundraising, and the Salvation Army Christmas bell ringers. Relatives and friends may call at the Hardesty Funeral Home, P.A. 12 Ridgely Avenue Annapolis, MD 21401 on Thursday August 18th from 2-4 & 7-9 PM. A memorial Mass will be offered at St. Mary's Catholic Church 109 Duke of Gloucester St, Annapolis, MD 21401 on Friday August 19th at 10:30 AM. We will leave in procession from St. Mary's Catholic Church for the cemetery at 11:45. Interment at St. Mary's Cemetery on West Street at 12 PM In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church, University of Maryland, Hospice of the Chesapeake, Annapolis SPCA or the
