Shirley Ann Myers, 76, a lifelong resident of Annapolis, died July 31, 2009 at Anne Arundel Medical Center after a brief illness.
Shirley was born May 5, 1933 to Harvey Fenton, Sr. and Myrtle Carr Myers at the old Emergency Hospital, now known as Anne Arundel Medical Center. She lived at Three Mile Oak (Carr's Corner), and was raised in the Parole area of Annapolis. She attended Germantown Elementary and graduated from Annapolis High School, class of 1951.
She began working as a bookkeeper for the Lazenby Insurance Agency on Main Street in Annapolis, and worked for their successor Phillip Richebourg Insurance Company until 1973. She then began working as a bookkeeper for Bowen's Farm Supply in Parole, working there until the present time.
Shirley was a member of the former Edwards Chapel United Methodist Church where she served as church organist from 1953-1976.
She was currently a member of Edgewater United Methodist Church, and since 1969 a member of the Anne Arundel Medical Center Auxiliary, working the front desk on Friday evenings for the past forty years. She was also a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Annapolis Chapter 46.
Shirley enjoyed needlework and sewing, was a faithful Baltimore Orioles fan, and loved spending time with her family and friends. She was known as a kind Christian person, and was loved by her large family and many friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents and by a brother, Harvey Fenton Myers, Jr.
She is survived by a brother John A. "Buck" Myers of Satellite Beach, FL; sisters Ivyl V. Rowland of Harwood, Irene E. White of Annapolis, Myrtle M. Rausch of Owings, Beverly L. Ames of Annapolis and Joan C. Myers of Baltimore; and her brother Martin H. Myers of Aiken, SC. She is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Friends will be received on Monday August 3 from 2-4 & 6-8 PM at Heritage Baptist Church, 1740 Forest Drive, Annapolis, MD, where Services and a celebration of her life will be held Tuesday August 4 at 11:00 a.m.. Interment will follow in Hillcrest Memorial Cemetery, Annapolis. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made to the Anne Arundel Medical Center Foundation, 2001 Medical Parkway, Suite. 240, Annapolis, MD 21401.
