Kenneth Coats Obituary

Kenneth C. Coats, 100, of Springfield, passed away on May 9, 2025, at St. John's Hospital.He was born on April 30, 1925, in Alsey, IL, the son of Cecil and Beulah (Hainey) Coats. Kenneth married Ina Quinn on May 24, 1947, at Saint Mark's Catholic Church in Winchester, IL. She preceded him in death, on May 7, 2013. Kenneth graduated from Winchester High School in 1943. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy, from 1943-1946. Kenneth went on to earn his bachelor's degree from Bradley University. He worked in the HVAC industry, the State of Illinois as a project manager, and then later worked as an engineer for CWLP. Kenneth was a member of Christ the King Catholic Church. He was a great dancer that loved to play golf, socialize, try to fix things, fish with his grandkids, and read. Kenneth was a family man known as smart, energetic, and outgoing. He was also preceded in death by his parents; and brother, Clem Coats. Kenneth is survived by his sons, Jim (Cheryl), Joe (Pat), Tom (Mary), Dan (Peggy), and Phil (Cyndy) Coats; daughters, Jan (John) Sluys, Kay Coats, and Mindy (Chris) Torbit; 15 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Private services will be held, with burial at Saint Mark's Catholic Cemetery in Winchester, IL. Memorial contributions may be made to: Catholic Charities. The family is being served by Butler Funeral Home – Springfield, 900 S. Sixth St., Springfield.

Worked with Ken many yrs ago at the Capitol Development Board. Great guy to work with. I'm having a problem remembering his facial features. I apologize for this. If it's not a problem would you send his picture to my facebook site. It's just Ed Dobey. Thank you and U have my sympathy for your loss. He was a good man.
