Carl Nixon Obituary

Carl Elliot Nixon, 87

Carl Elliott Nixon passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on April 12, 2025 in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho.

On December 27, 1937, Carl was born to Ike Oliver and Zyner Alice Nixon in Austin, Texas. Carl was raised in California with 10 brothers and sisters. He never graduated, only having a sixth-grade education, Carl worked and owned a concrete business, Nixon Concrete Construction. He was also a cowboy, as he roped for many years, with horses General and Spooky, in arenas in both California and Idaho.

Having met on a double date in Selma, California, Carl and Sandra were married on July 17, 1959. They welcomed their only daughter, Marva, and eventually moved to Idaho in 2003.

Carl was always surrounded by friends and family and told many great stories of his life and rodeo. He loved going on fishing trips with his grandkids and he was a wonderful grandpa, great grandpa, great great-grandpa and a devoted husband. He was a skillful oil painter and enjoyed painting pictures of western life and roping.

Carl is survived by his wife, Sandra; daughter, Marva Nixon; three grandchildren: Ryan Randall (Wanda), Taylor Gilbert (Noah), and Elliott Poe; five great grandchildren and five great great-grandchildren.

Known to all as Grandpa Carl and Papa, he was very loved by his friends and family. We love and miss you very much.

There will be a memorial service and reception on May 3, 2025 at 1:00 PM at Rathdrum Bible Church, 15127 Stevens St, Rathdrum, Idaho 83858 to celebrate the life of Carl.
