Collins Bryce Obituary
Mr. Bryce was born in Cornelius, North Carolina and reared in Northern Mecklenburg and Iredell Counties. He graduated from his beloved Dunbar High School, and after a short stint at Voorhees Technical College, he entered the United States Navy, where he served four years.
Upon his discharge from the Navy, Mr. Bryce attended Livingstone College in Salisbury, NC, graduating in 1963. He then began a thirty-seven-year career as a teacher, coach, assistant principal and transportation specialist for Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools. He retired from the school system in 2000 and worked part time for the City of Charlotte, Parks and Recreation until his health began to decline in 2012.
Mr. Bryce's community involvement included Hornet's Nest Optimist and the Dunbar High School Alumni Association. He was a member of Clement Memorial A.M.E. Zion Church for over 35 years, where he served as a Trustee, Finance Chair and member of the choir.
Mr. Bryce was preceded in death by his wife of 47 years, Winnie, his parents and three sisters. He leaves to cherish his memory daughters Colletta Euvonne and Leah Camille Bryce, son Clarence Leland Bryce (Shannon), his brother, Lonnie C. Clark Jr., five grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, and a host family and friends.
A Celebration of Life service will be held on Wednesday, March 14, 2018 at Weeping Willow A.M.E. Zion Church, 2220 Milton Road, Charlotte, NC. Family visitation will begin at 11:00 am, with service to follow at noon. In lieu of flowers, donations in Mr. Bryce's memory can be made to Clement Memorial A.M.E Zion Church Scholarship, 2207 Newland Road, Charlotte, NC 28216 or Levine & Dickson Hospice House, 11900 Vanstory Drive, Huntersville, NC 28078.

My condolences to Mr. Bryce family and friends. I first encounter Mr. Bryce in the office at school. He saw how tall I was and asked if I played basketball. I had never played not too mention ever considered it. I'm grateful he saw something in me I didn't at that time in my life, it changed me for the better. Heaven gained an angel for sure. RIP

Mr. Bryce was my favorite teacher at Garinger . Who knew a history class could be so much fun. I still remember the day, his loan went through for his fishing boat. He was so excited. That was all he could talk about. My prayers for his family. He was a great person. Glad I got to meet him.

Condolences to the Bryce family. Mr. Bryce was always seemed larger than life. I've known Mr. Bryce all my life. I will always remember his rich baritone voice and the way he cared about the church and the people.

Mr. Bryce was my Assistant Principal at RFK Jr High. He was always full of jokes and laughter, but when it came down to education he took it serious. I will always remember him. My prayers are with his family.

So many of us at Kennedy Jr High loved Mr. Bryce. He was a wonderful man. I will never forget the B & W club he started for us. He really was all about the kids.

Praying for each family member will gain trust in our Lord and know he is always with you and you have his favor.
He gave me advice when I was an 8th grader in a class he was teaching and to this day (63yrs old) I pull from it.

Remembering Mr. Bryce... As an assistant principal at Kennedy Jr. High School (Bank Street) in the 70's, the impact of Mr. Bryce's leadership on the students, administrators and teachers were truly remarkable.
Mr. Bryce was like the Joe Clark of Eastside High (movie, Lean on Me). He always intstilled in the students, at Kennedy, the emphasis of an education. Like Clark, Mr. Bryce imposed his "own" rules to discipline students...believe me, it worked!! In other words, Mr. Bryce didn't play!! Very well respected.
