Daniel Dubin Obituary

Daniel Shelome Dubin
Mr. Dubin of Charlotte died suddenly of natural causes on January 17, 2011. Dan was exceptionally devoted to his family. He felt strongly that no person should go hungry, and in his character as a 'do-er,' in 1999, he and wife Ellen established a fund to help feed hungry people in Charlotte.
Born January 12, 1946 in Bridgeport CT, Dan grew up in Franklin Square NY. Following graduation from SUNY Albany - where he was the 'eternal pledge' at Delta Sigma Pi - he served in the Army, earned an MBA, and embarked on a successful business career that spanned accounting, marketing, consulting, and management across several industries. Dan's work brought his family to Charlotte in 1988. Wherever Dan went, he became an active member of his community and a catalyst in building Jewish life, including: bringing Kosher food to SUNY, starting a B'nai B'rith Chapter in NY, serving as president of the Temple Israel Men's club, and serving on the Temple Israel board. Above all, Danny believed in the importance of celebrating life and family, and also helping people to the best of his ability - whether by giving advice, helping a colleague achieve a promotion, or donating funds as he could.
He was preceded in death by parents Molly and Abraham Dubin, and uncle Louis Feldman.
He is survived by beloved wife of nearly 40 years and life partner, Ellen, of Charlotte, children Adina Barkinskiy (Max), Adam (Shoshana), Joyce, and David; brother Robert Dubin of CA; granddaughter Miriam.
In lieu of flowers, donations should be made to the Dubin/Feldman Memorial Food Fund at Jewish Family Services of Charlotte or a food bank of your choice.
Shiva will be observed today, Tuesday, January 25, 2011 from 10am-10pm at the residence.
Harry & Bryant Co. is serving the family.

I worked with Dan on a 2009 CSC project in KY at a dusty brake factory. He was a loving and kind man and a very successful project manager. We continued to stay in touch even being on the opposite coasts. He always had kind words and we would exchange emails for my Christian Holidays and his Jewish Holy Days. My prayers go out to the family. He will surely be missed.

Dan was a great friend and was my first go to person to talk and relax during our hectic work schedule. Dan was always available to advise and help when needed.
Miss him a lot and my wish of meeting him again will remain unfulfilled.

Dan I really miss you. Whenever I asked anything you responded with kind heart. It was a shock for me to know about this as I was about to send an email to you to find out the contact information about your daughter which you gave me and I lost the email. I and Sarma enjoyed the dinner we had with you when you were at LMP, New Jersey. God bless your soul and god bless your family.

I cried when I got the news about Dan's death. We were just together in Anniston, AL. We both left the project at the same time, and Dan was the only one who sent an email saying he enjoyed working with me. I responded that he was one of the few remaining nice guys, and that sums Dan up fairly well. We will miss you buddy.

I worked with Dan for a short period at CSC. Dan was always was in the mode to do his best and supportive of whatever challenges we were facing.... I do remember a few times where he just shook his head and rolled his eyes....but never a discouraging word. A man on a higher level..it was my pleasure to have known him.

Dan and I worked together at CSC. He was my coworker but also a friend who was willing to help and go out of his way to do the right thing. His passion was contagious and he was always looking for the best way to solve a problem. I learned a lot from Dan and will miss him but, I know his faith was strong, and he is in a place of peace. I worked with Dan while on a bench project. I then got a chance to finally meet him in person when he was assigned to the LMP project in Marlton, New Jersey. I found Dan to be a kind & wonderful person, who was a hard worker & very proficient in his duties. I wish Dan's family my heart-felt condolences.

I knew Dan since 2000 from work at a couple of projects. He was always the consumate professional, and he cared not just about getting the job done, but also deeply cared about those people that he worked with.

With his Seniors he was always a respected and trusted advisor, with his peers he was always a straight shooting team player that wanted nothing more than the good of the team, and finally for those that worked for him, he was always a coach and mentor.

Away from work, Dan was always known for his love of life and of family, and for his deep love for his faith.

I count myself very priviledged to have had the great pleasure to know Dan both as a co-worker as well as a friend, and know that he is in a much better place at this time.
