Edith Rembert Obituary

Mrs. Edith Hice Rembert, 90, died on April 16, 2003 at Ashe Memorial Hospital in Jefferson, NC. A long time resident of Charlotte, she was born in Mecklenburg County on August 20, 1912, daughter of the late Evander and Ellie Hice. She was a graduate of Sharon High School and was employed for several years at the former Kresses Department Store in downtown Charlotte.
In 1937 she married the late George Andrea Rembert, president of Industrial Steel Company. They were married for 41 years and resided in Charlotte, most of those years on Kenilworth Avenue, until his death in 1978, after which she moved to Harrisburg, NC.
Edith was a longtime member of Ascension Lutheran Church on E. Morehead Street, where she sang in the choir, served on the Altar Guild and actively participated in the women's church circles. She will always be remembered as a loving and devoted mother, grandmother and great grandmother.
She is survived by two sons, George Rembert, Jr. of Lansing, NC and Richard Hice Rembert of Charlotte; one daughter, Susan Sparks Watkins of Richmond, VA; two brothers, Clifford E. Hice of Charlotte and Carl P. Hice of Harrisburg; and one sister, Mildred Hice Irvin of Charlotte; six grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; and one great great grandchild.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM on Tuesday, April 22, at Ascension Lutheran Church, 1225 E. Morehead Street, Charlotte, with Pastor Richard Runge officiating. Prior to the service, beginning at 1:00, a visitation will be held in the church Narthex. Burial will follow at Sharon Memorial Park.
Arrangements are in the care of Hankins and Whittington Dilworth Chapel, online at hankinsandwhittington.com.
