Edward Davis Obituary

Edward C. Davis, Jr. MINT HILL - Edward "Ed" C. Davis, Jr., 81, of Mint Hill, N.C., passed away October 1, 2014. He was born in Charlotte, N.C., on September 3, 1933, son of the late Edward C. Davis, Sr. and Margaret Skinner Davis. After graduating from high school, he began a career with Southern Bell Telephone Company, eventually taking a two-year leave to serve his country at Ft. Hood, Texas, and was proud of his assignment to guard and protect atomic bombs stored underground in Kileen, TX. After completion of his armed forces service he resumed his employment with Southern Bell. He developed a deep compassion for all his fellow employees and represented them for a term as District President of The Communication Workers of America. He retired after 20 years of service and formed his own company, Davis Grading. He spent the next 35 years doing what he loved. He was a charter member of the Carolinas Chapter of the Safari Club. He was an avid hunter and for 40 years took a group to Wyoming for a ten day big game hunt. He began planning the next year's adventure immediately after he got home. He is survived by his wife, Polly; son, E.C. Davis III (Cutty and Donna); daughter Terry Hoffman (Lee); daughter Darlene (Rick); step-son Scott Ward (Rose); step-daughter Toni Stary; 15 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and brothers Robert "Bob" Davis (Ann) and William "Bill" Davis (Karen). He loved his family, horses, beagles, NASCAR, country music, coffee breaks and antiques. A service to celebrate his life will be held at Blair Road United Methodist Church, 9135 Blair Road, Mint Hill, NC, on Monday, October 6, 2014, at 12:00 noon. The family will receive guests at the church beginning at 11:00 am prior to the service. Arrangements are by McEwen Funeral Service - Mint Hill Chapel; 704-545-4864 www.mcewenminthillchapel.com.

I first met Ed when my husband and I owned Woof 'N Hoof feed and tack store. He used to send his horse boarders in and would stop in himself as well. We always had some good conversations. I also used to design his fliers advertising his elk hunts - oh how he looked forward to his hunts! After we sold the store he still kept in touch coming by our house from time to time. I can still hear him tapping on the window and see him peeping in the kitchen to see if we were home. He was a good friend and will be greatly missed. Will be praying for Polly and all the family.

I am a friend of E C 111. I did not know Mr Davis personally, but am honored to know and understand who is responsible for giving his son Cutty the drive and passion he has inherited.
