Emmett Rogers Obituary

Emmett Harvey Rogers, Jr. age 72, made a permanent move on July 11, 2016 from his home in Mooresville NC to be with his Heavenly Father. He was born on March 4, 1944 to the late Emmett Harvey Rogers, Sr. and Edna Blanton Rogers. In 1965 he married Jane Walker of Shelby, NC. Shortly after they married, Harvey and Jane moved to Atlanta, GA where he managed a Sears Store. In 1970 he had an opportunity to enter the automobile business in Forest City, NC. It was while in Forest City he first answered a call to enter the Pastoral Ministry and was ordained there at the First Baptist Church. In pursuit of his ministerial training, Harvey completed his studies at Gardner Webb University, he then entered Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary in Wake Forest, NC where he earned a Master of Divinity and a Doctor of Ministry degrees. In 2012 he was humbled by the presentation of an honorary Doctor of Divinity degree from Gardner Webb University in Boiling Springs, N.C. He also served as a member of the Gardner Webb University Board for Trustees and Board of Ministers. He has served as a longtime member of the Lake Norman Regional Medical Center Board of Directors. He completed addition studies in Pastoral Care from the School of Pastoral care at Baptist Hospital in Wake Forest. Harvey pastored three churches during his 30 years of years of ministry: Forestville Baptist, Fallston Baptist and First Baptist of Mooresville. April 26, 2016, He was awarded the highest honor attainable within in the Baptist State Convention of NC, the Baptist Heritage Award. After retirement from the pastoral ministry, he joined the management staff of Randy Marion Automotive Corporation.

He is survived by his beloved wife Jane Walker Rogers and two daughters, Jennifer Kinion and her husband Steve, Jill Lackey and her husband Nick and two Grandsons, Walker Rogers and Bryce Lackey with which he had very special bonds.

A service of worship to the glory of God and to celebrate the life of Dr. E Harvey Rogers, Jr. will be held at 2 PM, Thursday, July 14, 2016, at Williamson's Chapel United Methodist Church, Mooresville, with Rev. Mark Pitts and Rev. John F. Bridges officiating. The family will receive friends immediately following in the church sanctuary.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Gardner Webb University, Dr. E. Harvey Rogers and Jane W. Rogers Scholarship Fund, 110 S. Main St., P.O.
