Evan Walters Eudy
February 19, 1927 - January 28, 2023
Mint Hill, North Carolina - Evan transitioned to his heavenly body at home for a better place on January 28, due to a full life on earth. He was the oldest of 7 children born to Mack and Lillie Robinson Eudy of Midland, NC. Evan is survived by sisters Alice Eudy Lee and Janet Eudy Furr.
Evan remembered lovingly coming to Charlotte with his maternal Aunt Fodie to sell rabbits, opossums and chickens, vegetables and eggs. Other than the weekend farmers market, Evan never left Cabarrus County until he was drafted into the Navy. Many times he would share his intrepidness as he sailed under San Francisco's Golden Gate Bridge on a cold rainy morning headed into World War II, saying he thought he would never see his Mama or family again. APA Sheridan would be his home, taking him all over the Pacific seas, especially Tokyo Bay, for Hirohito's unconditional surrender to the Allies.
Evan returned home to his family and a new baby sister, Janet, who arrived during his absence. In 1949 Evan married Nell Ross of Mint Hill, NC. Evan and Nell were married for 67 years and 7 months until her death in 2017. They very much loved to travel, seeing Europe and many locations across the USA attending reunions for the APA Sheridan, usually with family in tow.
Evan retired from Brookhill Village, Inc. at the age of 83 years. Under Evan's care, Brookhill experienced a rebirth. A property containing 416 apartments was dangerously close to demolition, just few years after it's initial construction completion. Playgrounds with swings and basketball courts were added along with enhanced lighting and safety measures. Access ramps were provided to any resident in need, way before the nationwide AHDA mandates. When questions arose over the need of these improvements, Evan was heard to say, "It's just the right thing to do". He successfully removed the Government and their many restrictions and turned it to a private, very successful, enterprise for the low-income residents.
Evan will be remembered as a very involved, caring Father, Grandfather and Great Grandfather. He had many names; Bibbi, Uncle Evan, Eudy, but his favorite was "Dad-da". His smile, laughter and just plain silliness are all hallmarks of this man, but most of all, his very serious clear vision of right and wrong. This vision he shared with his children and grandchildren.
Dad-da is survived by his children, Renay Eudy, Evan S. Eudy (Dan Huntley, MD), grandchildren Matthew Brandon Barrett (Kelli Klein Barrett), Erika Barrett Wolf (James Matthew Wolf), extended family Victoria Huntley Manning (John Manning), Brooks Burrows Huntley (Jade Frizsell Huntley), and last, but certainly not least, putting a twinkle in his eye: great-grandchildren Bryson Barrett, Anna Barrett, Ava Barrett, Evan Wolf and Barrett Wolf.
Anyone that knew Dad-da knows that the above-mentioned children were, of course in his opinion, the smartest, most generous, kind and thoughtful grand-children. He requested daily updates on each and laughed hardily at their individual antics and achievements, while praying for each of their well-beings.
Evan was extremely blessed to have a large, loving and supportive family of nieces/nephews, along with his church family, who called, visited, sent cards and provided many, many cookies, cakes, pies and other sweet treats, which of course, he treasured. Dad-da frequently questioned why he was so blessed to be the recipient of such endless kindness.
One of the greatest blessings he ever received was his longtime friend and caregiver, Myalik Nadezhda. "Nadia" cared for him until his death. When Nadia was not available, her daughter, Angelica Myalik Goncharuk, cared for Dad. Nadia and Angelica are angels in human form. The laughs, the kindness, the prayers and of course, the food (which always was a hallmark that a good time would be had by all) will never ever be forgotten. Your family will always be remembered as our family also.
Hospice of Charlotte cared for Evan beautifully. To Libba, Courtney, Shelby, Ann and James, we thank you.
