Gerald Flowe Obituary

Gerald Reid Flowe "Sonny" MINT HILL - Gerald Reid "Sonny" Flowe, of Mint Hill, passed away September 19th, 2012, at Harris Hospice after a very brief illness. He was born September 5, 1935 in Mecklenburg County to the late William Troy Flowe and Margaret Daniel Flowe. He was educated at Bain and East Mecklenburg High Schools, graduating with the class of 1953. Upon graduation, he served his country in the US Army as a Military Policeman. Following his military service, he began a 24 year career with Retail Credit, which later became known as Equifax. Before retiring, he enjoyed fifteen years working at Web-Don. For 48 years, he served in many capacities as a member of Cokesbury Methodist Church and was currently a member of Philadelphia Presbyterian Church and the Philadelphia Sunday School Class. He was also a member of the Mint Hill Masonic Lodge. Sonny never met a stranger and was loved by everyone who knew him. His magnetic personality and quick wit captivated people of all ages. Laughter and fun was a large part of who he was and he truly enjoyed life to the fullest. The joy that Sonny brought to others is simply immeasurable as is the degree to which he will be missed. Some of his greatest pleasures were simple things: spending time with family, all social activities and particularly meeting with friends and former classmates, spending time at his beach house in Calabash and most of all, enjoying his grandchildren. Survivors include his loving and faithful wife of 57 years, Betty Alexander Flowe; his sons, Mike Flowe of Murrells Inlet, Scott Flowe and beloved daughter-in-law, Jennifer Pettit Flowe of Charlotte; and his grandchildren, Reid and Nikki Flowe. Also surviving are sisters, Sue Carter and husband Zeke, and Gail Honeycutt and husband Pee Wee. The family will receive friends from 1:00-3:00 P.M. Sunday, September 23, at Philadelphia Presbyterian Church in Mint Hill. A memorial service to celebrate Sonny's life will be held immediately following the visitation at 3:00 P.M. The family would like to thank the dedicated and caring staff at the Harris Hospice Unit. Memorials may be directed to Stephens Ministry, c/o Philadelphia Presbyterian Church, 11501 Bain School Road, Mint Hill NC 28227 or Presbyterian Hospital Foundation, to benefit the Harris Hospice Unit, P.O. Box 33549, Charlotte, NC 28233-3549. Condolences may be offered at www.mcewenminthillchapel.com.

Betty, I only briefly met your husband. Mainly in a realestate investor perspective. I owned the property next to yours on Plaza. Your husband was a real character and a pleasure to interact with on our few occassions. Wish you and your family the best. Regards, Niels

This world will not be the same without my brother to brighten it. We were so blessed to have him in our lives and he will be missed more than words can express. He too, was blessed to have a wonderful wife, two sons, a daughter(she was never considered to be a daughter-in-law) and two precious grandchildren. Sonny, we love you, miss you but will see you again in Heaven someday!
