James Bartholomew Obituary

Born August 30, 1935 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania James was the son of the late Joseph Bartholomew and Helen Fay Bartholomew. He is survived by his daughter, Lisa Bartholomew Haislip (Greg) of Charlotte, his two grandsons, Chase Bartholomew Haislip (fiancee Lindsay Larison) and Quinn Fenton Haislip. Jim was also predeceased by his brothers and sister Joe Bartholomew, Frank Bartholomew and Helen Marshall and survived by his brother Richard Bartholomew.

Jim was raised in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania where he became a die-hard everything Philadelphia fan. He proudly served in the Army National Guard and in 1958 was stationed in Fort Jackson, South Carolina where he met the love of his life, Patsy (Pat) Delores Stokes. They shared 39 loving years together spending most of their married life in Casselberry Florida. He retired after nearly 40 years in the grocery business. He spent his remaining years close to his family in Charlotte.

Jim was a devout Catholic attending St. Matthew Catholic Church. He treasured his many Church friends including his weekly Pinochle Club. He found support and deep friendships with his friends from the CMC Pulmonary Rehabilitation Class. He was a strong follower of Notre Dame sports teams and later became a Tarheel fan once his grandsons attended college at UNC. Besides his wife, his greatest love were his two grandsons, Chase and Quinn.

Funeral Services will be held at the Day Chapel at St. Matthew Catholic Church, 8015 Ballantyne Commons Pkwy, Charlotte, on Saturday, February 4th, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. The family will receive friends 30 minutes prior to the service. Burial immediately following at Sharon Memorial Park.

The family would like to recognize all of the wonderful caregivers of Home Instead Senior Care for their loving care they provided Jim. We are also grateful to all the doctors and nurses in the Novant Health System.

Memorial donations may be made to St. Matthew Catholic Church to benefit the World Hunger Drive; 8015 Ballantyne Commons Pkwy Charlotte NC 28277 or to Charlotte Rescue Mission to benefit the Thanksgiving Meal Fund; P.O. Box 33000 Charlotte NC 28233. Both charities were very dear to Jim's heart.

Lisa and family, as project manager for the Charlotte Rescue Mission Thanksgiving Food Box Program, there are no words to express how much it meant to hear how much your dad loved giving these food boxes. What a special blessing he was to the recipients as well as Charlotte Rescue Mission. Our thoughts and prayers are with you and your family.

I met Jimmy soon after he met Pat as she was one of my best friends. Jimmy had no choice but to accept me into his life, which he did. I was a constant in their early years of marriage and never did he make me feel like I was intruding. To the contrary, he too became one of my best friends. In later years distance in miles separated us, but we kept in touch. I will always cherish the memories I have of my friend Jimmy. What a great man.

I didn't know him long, but it touched my heart to relive the days of the Mummers Parade in Philadelphia with him. I enjoyed getting to know him if even for a short time. Your family is in my thoughts and prayers that you will find peace and comfort during this difficult time.
