To All of Joan's Family: Joan was a terrific individual and a fabulous teacher. She was my Pilates instructor at the Harris YMCA. I remember when she told me that she was a school teacher -- I should have known from the organized and thorough way she conducted her exercise classes! Most importantly she was a wonderful person. We are all lucky to have known her.

Stan,

I am in total shock! I have just now watched the news regarding Joan's death (as a victim of second hand smoke) and put the pieces together. Last week I ran into Rosemary McGraw in the store as she was purchasing food to prepare a dish to take to your family. She was devastated about loosing Joan (she had worked with her at Greenway Park.) As I listened to her talk about "this wonderful friend" she had just tragically lost, Joan's name never came up. Then just now (5:45 p.m.), I saw the picture of the two of you on Channel 3 news and realized who they were talking about. Joan and I worked at Albemarle Road Elementary School many years ago and enjoyed a wonderful friendship. I lost track of her when I transferred to another school. However, we reconnected when I tried to figure out who this fabulous arobics teacher was at Fitness Today. We reconnected and when Fitness Today closed, then I followed her to Gold's Gym as well. She was a "one in a million" and I am so sorry I did not realize all of this in time to pay my respects to you and your family before now. Know that the world is a better place because she lived here. My prayers and sincere sympathy to you and your family. God bless you all.

Dear Stan and Taylor,

Joan taught one of my very first Body Pump classes when I joined Gold's Gym upon moving to Charlotte. Her energy motivated and inspired me. As I became an instructor myself, I became better acquainted with Joan. I remember hearing several stories of you Taylor growing up, as different musical selections reminded her of you. She will be missed as a great leader in all she did. God bless you both. Lee Koch

Although I did not know Joan personally, I was privileged to attend many of her pilates classes at the Harris YMCA. Upon finishing her class, not only did you know that you had completed a wonderful pilates work out, you felt refreshed and you looked forward to her next class; I oftened referred to her class as a soothing massage. Surely there are Saints today lining up for "Heavenly Pilates"! Sincerely, Jan Kellogg

I knew her only by the lives she touched.

My sense is of someone with a rare gift: A gift to inspire, uplift, and transform...to amuse and delight...above all to teach.

I see her light shining when her friends speak of her...and in the serene courage of her family.
