John Hightower Obituary

John Peach Hightower Jr.

March 19, 1944 - February 14, 2024

Palm Desert, California - Private memorial services for Mr. John Peach Hightower, Jr., age 79, of Palm Desert, CA, will be held at 2 PM on Thursday, March 28, 2024 by invitation only at The Springs Country Club in Rancho Mirage, CA. Mr. Hightower passed Wednesday, February 14th in Palm Desert, CA. He was preceded by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. John P. Hightower, Sr., of Dunnellon, FL, and son Philip C. Hightower of Tuscaloosa, AL.

We celebrate John's life, a servant of Christ born in Tuscaloosa, Alabama in 1944 and called home in Palm Desert on Feb. 14th of this year. John, affectionately known as "Peach" to his friends and family, was raised in Charlotte, North Carolina and graduated from Myers Park High School. While attending Huntington College in Montgomery, Alabama, Peach married and relocated to North Carolina where he attended the University of North Carolina and raised two sons, eventually accepting a position after graduation with TYCO Kendall International in 1970. Over the years afterwards, Peach would serve with several medical technology companies such as Micromedic, where he helped pioneer novel treatments for non-healing bone fractures, and Travenol Labs, a leader in the technologies needed to treat kidney disease and a host of other chronic conditions. In the early 1990's, Peach accepted a promotion which relocated him from North Carolina to California, first to Newport Beach and later to the Riverside County communities where he remained until his retirement as a Regional Medical Technology Sales Manager. After retirement Peach kept himself busy, becoming a Mason and joining other local civic interest groups, obtaining certifications as both a realtor and stockbroker, and eventually settling on working as a local Airbnb property manager until his recent passing.

In keeping with his alma mater Peach bled Carolina blue and, were he still with us, he would find it acutely ironic (and rather funny) that the address of his memorial service venue is #1 Duke Dr.

Survivors include his son, Mr. and Mrs. John P. Hightower, III of Woodbridge, VA; sister, Ms. Georgia Anne Jenkins of Concord, NC.; grandchildren, Ms. Savannah L. Hightower of Woodbridge, VA., Mr. and Mrs. Salvador De La Torre of Phoenix, AZ. and Mr. David R. Hightower of Richmond, VA.

Peach was a dear friend for many decades. I last talked to him at Christmas and am so glad we were able to connect. We were nextdoor neighbors when his sons were very young and extend my condolences to John. I will miss just knowing he was still with us and remembering our shared experiences.
