Lawrence Maye Obituary

Mr. Lawrence Harold Maye, 89, of Charlotte, NC, died Sunday, February 9, 2003 at Presbyterian Hospital.
Mr. Maye was born July 4, 1913 in the Hickory Grove community of Mecklenburg County, North Carolina. He was one of ten children to the late Whilden Dowd Maye and Docia Elizabeth Love Maye. In 1935, he married Alice Cuthbertson at Hickory Grove Methodist Church. They had been married for 64 years at the time of her death in 1999. He started Maye Hosiery Sales in 1955, which his son, Larry, still operates today. He was a member of Memorial United Methodist Church.
Mr. Maye enjoyed the game of golf in his younger years and was always a baseball fan and was an avid Atlanta Braves Fan. He had quite a humble nature and always had an appreciative spirit about him. Above all he was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. He was definitely a family man.
A service to celebrate the life of Mr. Lawrence Harold Maye was held 7:00 PM Tuesday, February 11, 2003 at McEwen Charlotte Chapel with The Reverend Peggy D. Bridgers officiating. There will be a graveside service at 11:00 AM today at Sharon Memorial Park.
Mr. Maye is survived by his three children: Jerry Maye and wife, Rita of Charlotte, Penny Frazier and husband, Al of Charlotte, Larry Maye and wife, Diane of Huntersville, NC; three grandchildren: Mark Maye and wife, Aimee, Dowd Maye and Kristy Frazier; four great-grandchildren: Luke Maye, Cole Maye, Beau Maye and Drake Maye; brother, Lewis Maye of Concord and sister, Helen Justice.
The family would like to thank the third floor staff of Wesley Nursing Care and Sharon Village Retirement Community and Dr. Brad Weisner and Dr. Richard Foulke for the love, care and support given to Mr. Maye and the family during his illness.
Memorials may be made in remembrance to Lawrence Harold Maye to the American Cancer Society, 500 E. Morehead Street, Charlotte, NC 28202 or to Commonwealth United Methodist Church, 2434 Commonwealth Avenue, Charlotte, NC 28205.
