Charlotte, North Carolina - Mary Payne, 67, passed away on Sunday, April 25, 2021 at home. Born July 16, 1953 in Forsyth County to the late Rev. J.O Blythe and Betty G. Blythe. Mary was a loving wife, mother and friend. Mary was a born again Christian who was a member of Berryhill Baptist Church in Charlotte, NC for over 57 years.
Mary was a graduate from West Mecklenburg High School in 1971. She entered CPCC in the nursing program and later finished her nursing degree at Presbyterian School of Nursing, in Charlotte, NC. She later was employed at Presbyterian Hospital for 5 years in the geriatric department. Mary loved kids and was a second mom to many. She opened an in home day care and cared for many children for over 25 years. She loved to pick up kids for church in the big green bus! She traveled many of miles in that bus doing the Lords work. She served on the WMU Leadership Team, children choir, Sunday School Teacher and an active member of the adult choir. Mary had perfect attendance in the Lords' House up until January, 2021, when she was no longer able to attend.
Those left to cherish her memories include; Husband, Gary Payne of 46 years; daughter, Marie Elizabeth Payne of the home; son, James Christopher Payne of Asheville, NC; three grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; many great-nieces and great-nephews, cousins & extended family members. She was preceded in death by her parents and 6 brothers.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at a later date. The family wishes to thank the staff at Bayada Home Health & Robin Johnson Hospice House for their loving care and support. Memorials can be made to the Robin Johnson Hospice House of Dallas, N.C in loving memory of Mary Payne.
