Norman Innes Obituary

Norman Franklin Innes November 18, 1931 - March 28, 2018 CHAPEL HILL - Norman Franklin Innes was born in Hempstead, NY on November 18, 1931. He died at the Cedars of Chapel Hill on March 28, 2018. After high school, he attended Cornell University until 1952, at which time he started his career in the US Army. Norman and his high school sweetheart, Rhonda, were married on March 21, 1953. He was an Army aviator, served in both Korea and Vietnam, and retired after 20 years with the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. Over the course of his 86 years, Norman and family lived in many different locations. They moved to North Carolina in 1972, and NC has been their home since. He then attended UNCC, where he earned his B.S. degree in Mathematics. He started a career in computer science, which he continued for the rest of his life. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, his daughter, Cindy, sons Bruce and Ray, six grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren. He was quick-witted, and he loved acquiring knowledge and sharing it. He leaves a legacy of problem-solving skills and applying meticulous care in whatever he did. For many years, he was a strong supporter of the Charlotte Symphony and, more recently, of the NC symphony. He was an accomplished photographer and had an active interest in astronomy. I was thinking about Norm and did a search and was saddened to see that he had passed.

Norm was working at UNCC while I was a student and later I worked with him in Matthews. He was incredibly smart and very quick witted. He had the true computer scientist's attention to detail. I always found him to have a wry sense of humor.

I will always remember him with fondness.
