Paul Ervin Obituary

IN MEMORY OF

Paul Alexander Ervin
'Alex'
8/10/1991 - 6/10/2007
My Angel Alex,
It has been 2 years since you have died; no doubt the longest 2 years of my life. I miss you so terribly. I always reminisce of the times we had, and of your life. It occurred to me I did not give you all the accolades you deserved in your obituary. I am so sorry...I was so out of it. Please forgive me.
Early years: Alex played T-ball, soccer and swam like a fish at the Harris YMCA for a number of years. He attended Bible school every summer at Providence United Methodist Church. While performing in a play, there, he kissed his first girl, unexpectedly. Everyone just rolled. It was priceless. He attended Camp Thunderbird one summer and as I helped him unpacked, he asked me 'Mom, is their air conditioning broken?' I knew it was going to be an experience. At pick-up, his counselor said he was the favorite, and wanted him to stay another week. He was a proud member of Boy Scouts at Forest Hills Church.
Middle years: Alex became an active member at Forest Hills in the youth group. He volunteered and participated in various mission trips. He worked especially well with the elderly, and they kept requesting that he come back! Alex enjoyed tennis and attended many classes/clinics at Old Providence Racquet Club. He also became an avid swimmer, and truly loved to snow ski. He was really looking forward to attending Appalachian University, as he loved cold weather, and wanted to perfect his skiing. Alex was inducted into The Duke University TIP Program (Talent Identification Program) in the 7th grade. We were so proud of him! He was voted friendliest classmate by his peers in the 7th grade at AG Middle School. In the summer of 2006 he attended 'Super Camp' at Wake Forest University.
Alex finished his first year at Myers Park High School just before he died. He loved the Mustangs, and had just begun to soar in his second semester.
Alex's love for music was his treasure, so diverse.. and so loud! Each summer Alex and I would travel somewhere by car or plane. He loved it. Our last big trip was to San Francisco, because he wanted to fly a 'long way.' Once landing in California, Alex said, 'Ya know Mom, flying is horribly over-rated.'
He always made me laugh.
His last treasure to me...On the Wednesday before his death, his orthodontist's office notified me, that Alex had entered a contest and submitted a 3 page essay on why his Mom should win The Mother's Day Contest. They said he had won 'unanimously'. He was so proud, and of course I was beyond elated.
Thank you, Alex, for all the love and wonderful memories. They were more than I ever dreamed of. I was so blessed, and I am so proud of you, Alex.
'I love and miss you, more
than there are stars in the sky.'

Alex, I remember picking you and Shelby up one day after school. You two BEGGED to ride in the back of my truck and I remember looking in my review mirror and seeing you grinning ear to ear with that curly hair just blowing in the wind. I know i did not spend too much time around you, but when I did the laughter never stopped. I wish you had known JUST how important you were to people then...so many people loved you and now miss you. Years may pass, but I can promise that you will never be forgotten.

Alex, you were the funniest guy! You definitely did make me laugh. Shelby misses you so much. I have held her while she cried and I cried. She sure loved you and has told me more times than I can count, that you were her best friend of all time. She could tell you anything and did I'm sure! I see your picture every day because my girl has it on her wall of pictures. There is a picture of you and Shelby and me on her 14th birthday, when you went with us to get her belly button pierced. I remember that we laughed and cut up and went to eat at Texas Roadhouse; and every time I eat there now, I can't help but think about you and remember. You were a good friend to my girl and her heart aches missing you. I know that she will have lots of stories to tell you one day, and these stories will make you proud of her I'm sure. We love you and miss you Alex.
