Sean Clark Obituary

Two Charlotte Mecklenburg police officers were shot and killed after responding to a disturbance call at an east Charlotte apartment complex Saturday night. Sean Clark, 34, and Jeffrey Shelton, 35, both died from gunshot wounds after a shooting at Timber Hollow Apartments at about 11:15 p.m. The officers were struggling with one of the suspects in the apartment parking lot when they were shot, CMPD Police Chief Darrel Stephens said in an early morning news conference. Neither of the officers fired a shot of their own. They were transported to Carolinas Medical Center after the incident. Clark died at 12:14 a.m. Sunday, and Shelton died at 4:06 a.m., Stephens said. Clark had been with the department for just over a year; Shelton was hired in 2001. Both were assigned to the North Tryon Division. Both Clark and Shelton were married. Clark, a West Mecklenburg High School graduate, had a child on the way. “It’s heartbreaking,” said Officer Bob Fey, CMPD public information officer. “Just hearing a call like that going out over the air… I happen to be working off duty tonight -- it’s not my scheduled day to be working, but just hearing the dispatcher say those words over the air, ‘We have two officers shot in the North Tryon Division,’ it just makes your heart skip a beat.” Police are now looking for at least two suspects related to the shooting. Milton Road was blocked off for several hours overnight while police conducted their search for the suspects, but it has since been reopened. A SWAT team, K-9 units and a police helicopter have been called in to assist police in their efforts. Several police officers are still on scene at Timber Hollow Apartments, where they are interviewing people who live there.

I met Sean thru Scuba diving...we were in our late teens. He was always a perfect gentleman. I was amazed at how focused he was on his future and he never gave into peer pressure. Sean was very mature for his age. Sean was the kind of guy that would make a mama PROUD. I'M BLESSED TO HAVE KNOW SEAN.

To Sean's Dear Family,

I am so sorry for the loss of your brave son. He truly lived up to the words "To Serve and Protect." I appreciate his loyalty to the community and he sets a good example for us all.

May it comfort you to know that others are deeply touched by your loss. I too know the pain of losing someone dear. Even though our hearts are broken, rest assure that our Grand Creator cares about you personally (1Peter5:7) and can help you though this difficult time.
Revelation 21:4 speaks of a time soon when God will do away with death forever. There will be no more sorrow, heartache, or pain. May your happy memories and sure scriptural hope comfort your hearts during this painful time.

My heart is still sad but I know we will see you again and I know you are watching Sherry and the boys and you should be very proud of Sherry, she is a strong lady and always has a smile to share. I know you are always giving your mom rays of sunshine when she needs it most too. See you again one day.

My Precious Sherry;
I have read every day this wonderful book full of love and prayers going out to you and your two sons. I remember changing your diaper and staying up with you the entire night adoring you with all of my heart. I remember every year of your life watching you grow from a child to an adult woman. I have admired and respected you from the day you were born. I have loved all of your family and looked up to the love and joy in your family from the day you were born. You never knew that I learned how to love just watching Rick and Ann living in love; not afraid to express that love, and I wanted my life to come close to the life I saw every time I visited. When I first met Sean the first time I knew you two were perfect together; as I saw your parents set the perfect example for you to live your life to the fullest, always looking for the best in everyone and overlooking the faults as if they were not there. From that example I learned to love; not only that, Sherry I want you to know I have always been proud of my brother, my sister in law; my nephew and you. Sean fit perfectly in that love. I can not find any words to say to you now to help what you are feeling. I feel it also, and all of these wonderful people in this book are loving you and your boys with kindness and prayers, searching for some way to comfort you,and I know you can feel that love. I just want you to know Sherry that if it brings any comfort to you that the love I have learned to feel, I began learning real love the first night I stayed up playing with you as an infant; to watching you grow up with parents who knew how to show that love openly; you are one of the expressions of true love. I am in debt to you and your parents forever because I learned how to love and I still feel that love no matter what comes in my life. Sherry, I love you more than the air I breathe; you, your brother and your parents have given me a gift I can not repay. All of these wonderful people here in this book confirm everything I ever saw in you. I pray you find some comfort in the love they all send to you. God must have told them the angel you are and they heard your pain as I have. God bless you and your family and comfort you now. I can say thank you to your parents and you and your brother and Sean. My eyes are opened now thanks to you all. I know real love now and I would have never known that had I not watched you all for so many years. Sherry, if you ever need a thing please call me. I need you more than you could know and in all I have read in this book of love here, I believe in people again; I believe in you, and your parents; I thank God for all I learned. I know what you are feeling my precious one. I love you so much and I do not think you ever knew that. Please call me. I miss you so much. I miss you all. I can not help but to love every person who is loving you now. God bless you. Aunt Pat

It has been nearly six weeks since this senseless tradgey occured, and I still think of these two young men almost everyday. I hurt for their family and friends, but most of all I wonder, WHY???. Why did this happen to such a fine young man, with a wonderful family, and so much life ahead of him. We will never fully understand why these things happen. I know that what I feel is no comparision to what Sean's family is going through. I was very touched watching his funeral. Mrs. Clark, it is obvious that you have a wonderful family, and that Sean loved you and your son very much. I would like to tell you that you and your two boys are in my prayers often. I pray for your strength and comfort. God will heal your pain. He will never give us anything that we cannot handle. Sean was a hero to so many people. Please know that he will never be forgotten.

My prayers are with your family. I remember Sean's mother from when she was a bus driver at Paw Creek. She is as nice a lady as anyone could know - always positive and always smiling, always reaching out to people, even me when I was so shy as an incoming Sophomore. It's so nice to know that she taught her son well. Sounds like he turned out to be just like his mom. What a blessing! :)

i'm not really beleiving this yet, sean was a freind of mine we met in 98 while helping out another freinds race team. i live in ohio now and didnt get the news until yesterday when i heard it on the radio. we instantly became good freinds , being from where i'm from i never met anyone like him . and when i met his parents i understood more about why he was the man that he was. most people will spend their whole life and never meet a sean clark. i got lucky and got that chance .i am having a rough time dealing with the fact that we lost touch for the last year and even though i have several freinds there ,some things changed for me and noone could reach me .and i wanted more than anything to be there . i know nothing would have stopped him from being there for me.sean didnt just like his freinds , he loved his freinds . and when ever we talked he would always let me know how he felt. helping people was his goal in life .i am sure that you are an angel in heaven , but you were also an angel here on earth.i appoligize to seans mom and dad and sherry and brayden . for my not being there.

My thoughts and prayers are with Officer Clark's family. I have thought about him and Officer Shelton everyday since they went home to be with the Lord, and will continue to do so. Their lives have reminded me to pursue my passions and dreams, and how I can make a difference in this world also. Officer Clark was a shining light to this messed up world. Even though he is physical gone, his light still shines brightly. To the Clark family, always know that God's arms are wrapped around you tightly, because Sean is experiencing that right now, and there is no better place to be than that. Officer Sean Clark will never be forgotten.

April 11, 2007

Stepping out of the ambulance to see Sean’s smile and confidence on scene was such a great pleasure as well as a relief because I knew that he made sure everything was as it should be. Sean had a rare gift of healing. The first time I met Sean we responded to what ended up being a service call. We stayed on scene to finish up paperwork laughing and having a good time only to find out that there’s no other state of being when Sean was around. After a while he pulled me to the side and asked if I was ok. Here’s a guy I just met, knows nothing about me and has only seen me laughing. Shocked, I tried to keep a smile on my face and responded with why do you ask? He said I just get this feeling there’s something bothering you. And of course he was right. I had failed an exam that day and wasn’t necessarily the happiest camper around. He looked at me straight in the eye and said just keep on keeping on. You’ll pass it next time, just don’t forget where you’re headed and you’ll make it.
…Sean had this glow about him 24/7 … and now I know why…
Sean I highly admire and respect you. Thanks for your heard work, compassion and sacrifice. I will never forget you.

I wanted to tell of the Sean Clark I got to know. I had the priviledge of meeting Sean on a Cold night Back in October of 06'. I am an ER Doc at CMC. He came in with a case that night and even though it was late and raining like crazy he still seemed to smile. We began chatting about everything just trying to pass the time. The one thing he kept bringing up was his family he had @ home. That wasn't the last time I got to speak with him. It was almost like clockwork on the late shift to see either Sean or Jeff come in for something or nothing. Sean was a man I admired and respected on so many different levels. Sean got up everyday to do a job that I myself couldn't see doing. He stared down fear everyday to keep us all safe and did it without hesitation. Sean was an amazing person with a heart like no one I had ever met before. I just wanted to tell his wife and family I understand their pain and sorrow completely because I too am a widow of a fallen officer.Sean's family is in my heart and prayers.

Each time you think of Sean, think of Garth Brook's "The Dance" - even though things have mortally ended tragically I'm sure you would never trade your life and love with Sean. Be strong, cry, smile, and even laugh. I pray that peace will surround you and your family in the days, months and years to come.

I was very sorry to hear of your loss. I know that we haven't spoken in a while. I would like to say that I'm sorry for the past but we had some wonderful times together as well. In closing, I would like to say to have faith in God. It is he who grants the strength to accept things which are otherwise difficult. Mrs. Clark,

Your husband was put on this earth to serve out a "Special Plan" given to him by God The Father. It may seem to you that he was taken from your family too soon, but I believe he had completed the plan that God had for him on this earth and he is now with The Heavenly Father serving out his new plan. Watching over his loving family as only an Angel can do.

May God Bless and keep you and your family.

Dear Sherry,
It's takes a selfless and amazing individual to serve the public and his country and your Husband was that individual. He was a true Hero and will always be remembered. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. I have always admired the families and especially the Wives of these heroes for their bravery. I use to think that I could never be that brave soul and a little over a year ago I married an Officer of the law. I salute your Husband and I salute You. Behind every Great Hero there is a Great Heroine. May God Bless You.

Thank you for your sacrifice. Please know many, many people are grieving with you. I am new to Charlotte. We lost two officers in Tampa in 1998. The pain I feel when someone kills a police officer feels like more than I can bear. I am so very sorry.

"Police Officer's Prayer"

When I start my tour of duty God,
Wherever crime may be,
as I walk the darkened streets alone,
Let me be close to thee.

Please give me understanding with both the young and old.
Let me listen with attention until their story's told.
Let me never make a judgment in a rash or callous way,
but let me hold my patience let each man have his say.

Lord if some dark and dreary night,
I must give my life,
Lord, with your everlasting love
protect my children and my wife.
