Stanley Ridgeway Elrod, Jr.
August 19, 1939 - June 21, 2022
Charlotte, North Carolina - Stan Elrod, 82, passed away peacefully on June 21, 2022. A third generation Charlottean, he was born on August 19, 1939, a son of the late Stanley Ridgeway Elrod, Sr. and Ruth Whitton Elrod Wainwright. He attended Myers Park High School and was a graduate of Baylor Military Academy. He attended North Carolina State University and served six years in the Air National Guard.
A long-time home builder, Stan was instrumental in the development of neighborhoods throughout South Charlotte, including Morrocroft, Quail Hollow, and Fox Lake. He had a long association with and great devotion to the YMCA of Greater Charlotte. He was an avid pilot and an adventurous world traveler.
Above all else, he was a man of faith and family. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Suzanne Zeigler Elrod, his sons Zane Elrod of Davidson (Allison) and Aaron Elrod of Charlotte (Wyn), and four grandchildren; Tyler Elrod (Kylee), Benjamin Elrod, Bailey Elrod, and Kathryn Elrod.
A celebration of Stan's life will be held on Monday, June 27, in the Chapel of McEwen Funeral Home, 10500 Park Road in Charlotte, beginning at 11:00. Reception to follow. The family would prefer in lieu of flowers donations to The Ivey Memory Wellness Day Center or the Harris Branch of the YMCA of Greater Charlotte.
