Bert S. Hicks, Sr., age 96, of Indian Head Park, formerly of Riverside and Berwyn. US Navy Veteran. Owned and operated Hicks Hardware, their family business which was founded in 1925. Beloved husband of Marjorie, nee Jaburek; cherished companion of Lucille Evans; loving father of Mike (Susan), Merrill (the late Tom) Taylor, Bert S. Jr. (the late Barbara) and Tim; fond brother of Robert (the late Virginia); dear grandfather of Marnie, Mike, Merrill Lee, Bill, Steven and Jason; great-grandfather of 12. Resting at Kopicki's Heritage Funeral Home, 3117 S. Oak Park Ave., Berwyn, IL 60402. Visitation Sunday, Nov. 21, 2011, 3 to 8 p.m. Funeral Monday, 10 a.m. Chapel Service. Interment Clarendon Hills Cemetery. Past member of the South Berwyn Association, Berwyn Park Board, 1st Federal, Freedom Federal (Harris Bank) board of directors and appraiser, Masons, Shriners and Kiwanian for over 48 years. Was a regular at Hicks hardware and talked regularly with Bert in the 50´s and early 60´s. Left Berwyn in 1967 and now reside in Portland Oregon but my memory of Hicks Hardware endures.

During the many years I worked at Freedom Federal, it was always a pleasure to visit Bert at the hardware store, my deepest sympathy, he was a great man.

My father used to work at Hicks Hardware and always spoke so fondly of every member of the family. All our thoughts are with the Hicks family at this time.

Bert was a gentleman who was much loved by his family and friends. During his long life he made significant contributions to his country and community. He will be missed.

Our thoughts and prayers are with the Hicks family during this difficult time. Bert is by far one of the nicest people I have ever had the pleasure of knowing. It was always a joy to have him come into the branch and just sit for long periods of time talking to. He will be dearly missed by many! R.I.P. my dear friend
