I remember he performed at an IBM event we held at the Art Institute back in the late 70´s! It was a wonderful experience! There was no one like him and he is still missed.

Please know that Franz may be gone, but not forgotten. Just today I was telling of how kind he was to me as a young man dining with my father at the Empire Room, when I asked him to play "that Hungarian song" I remembered from the last time we visited. He did. And it was awesome. God bless him.

Dear Maria and Family,
We must be the last people to hear the very sad news of Franz's passing. Charlie is devastated. I had just written his name on our Christmas envelope when I decided to check online. Even though Charlie went to Lane Tech, he was a year behind Franz in school and apparently met him in 1947 at Germania Club. Charlie drove Franz around a lot in those days, because Franz did not have a car. The reason was: Franz had no money because he had bought his Stradivarius. During that time Charlie met Franz's mom, too. I met Franz in the early 70's on one of our special dates to the Consort Room and again much later in Elmhurst Park.
We are splitting our time between Wisconsin and Florida, so we lost direct contact, but our fond thoughts and memories never stopped. We add our voices to the loving tributes written in this guestbook and share the happy thought about violins in heaven.
Sincerely and with our deepest sympathy,
Charles Moelter

Dear Benteler family: I would like to offer my sympathy on the death of Franz.
He was a very smart and Kind person .
My favorite memories of him are these ; I am 52 now ;i was very shy when I was 16.
I use to go visit him once a month -when he played the consort room . I did that from 16-21 years old . Anyway ,he always took the time to sit with me for 5 minutes on his break .
Words cannot express how much that meant to me . I will never forget him for it . He and all of you will be in my prayers . Thanks Mary McMahon_szeszycki

May I offer my sincere condolences tothe family on the death of Franz. He played with my father, Otto Muncke, at the Old Heidelberg and later at the Swiss Chalet, I believe. My father, who passed in 1963, was a great admirer and so was the rest of our family and I have fond childhood memories of hearing Franz play with my father.

We all are so sad to hear of Franz's passing. He will always be remembered for his warmth and charm and his beautiful music. He was often a part of our Chicago's Magnificent Bride's show at the Drake and elsewhere. Every one of our guests so loved his violin playing and his orchestra.
We all at Stuart-Rodgers Photography wish his family our heartfelt sympathy at their loss.
Sincerely,

On behalf of all the smiling faces I photographed with Franz and while listening to Franz in Melrose Park and Northlake, I am truly sorry for your loss. What a tremendous legacy of kindness and talent Franz leaves behind; he was always so gracious and patient at every concert--and always in demand. How grateful I am to have memories of listening to him at dusk on a summer evening and a photo of him hanging in my office.

My wife, Evelyn, and I, and our small wedding party spent our wedding night at the Consort Room in August, 1968. What a beautiful way to start our life together! Franz Bentler was playing there, and he played a special rendition of "True Love" for us, which we never forgot. At our recommendation, he began playing yearly concerts in the Talman Federal Savings parking lot every Summer and drew huge crowds. The people just loved him and his music! On behalf of my wife and myself, and all of the Talman Federal employees and the entire Talman Federal family, we send our sympathies and "Thanks for the Memories!" He may be gone, but his music will live forever.

Fond memories of Franz's performances in the well area of First National Bank Chicago, and the beautiful performances he gave in Elmhurst park concerts. His gracious filling of individual requests was so warm, and he always made such a beautiful playing of my p[ersonal reqest to play "The Wind Beneath My Wings". Tears of pride filled my eyes as he performed this personal request. My wife just prior to her call to heaven had remarked that I would know the meaning of the words after she was gone. The song still is in my head with the way Franz caressed this special song for me.
Thank you Franz for years of beautiful music. You are missed by many.

Every summer we would get the schedule for Franz's performances, and we would be certain to attend many of the concerts. Also enjoyed the music when he played in Park Ridge in the summer. My husband would take me and our three sons to the Consort Room in Chicago to celebrate important events in our lives and top it off with Franz's music. We also were invited to weddings where he and his orchestra performed. I am certain he is still playing in violin in heaven and is making others so happy. He was blessed with a marvelous talent and shared it with so many.

Dear Maria and Family.
Don and I just read the sad news. We add our comments to all those you will surely receive - for Franz used his talent to bring pleasure to so many of us. Of course we recall the good times and the wonderful presence he added to Concort Room and our Austrian Ball for all those years! What a gentleman he was. We are certain that heaven had a violin waiting for him and that his God given talent has come home...
We are now living in Florida, or we would surely have been present to say our good byes in person.
Fondly,
Gerda Hansen, Hon. Consul of Austria in Western Florida

To Franz's family, Sal and I were so saddened to hear of his passing. We enjoyed all of our encounters from the casual parties at the Chelbana's lake home to the many parties where we heard him play. We will never forget his beautiful music. I especially remember the last time Sal and I saw him how much he enjoyed the cranberry cake. I know he will be leading a great orchestra in heaven.
