As a kid, my Dad took me to the Met to see the Twins. Johnny Klippstein pitched in alot of the games I saw as a little kid. He always seemed so composed and older than many of his teammates. As I enter my 50's I still remember and think of the players I saw as my friends, even though I never knew them personally. Many great memories of Klippstein and Worthington.....E. Hulst

John and I attended the same Senior High School in Silver Spring, Md. and whereas he was several years my senior, I admired him so very much for his gentle spirit and friendliness. This world is diminished by his passing but I will always cherish his memory.

I was deeply saddened by Mr. Klippstein's death. During the 1980's, while John worked as a packaging salesman in the Chicagoland area, I was one of his customers. Being an avid Cub fan, my most favorite memory was when John took me out to lunch. Here was a famous baseball player, who pitched in TWO World Series, and HE took me out to lunch. WOW!!! When I left the company, John signed a baseball for me. It will always be one of my most prized possessions. Rest in Peace. You are watching the Angels play now!

John was a high school classmate in Silver Spring, MD. We played baseball and basketball together and belonged to the same vocal group. One of the greatest things about John was his friendliness and the fact that he never grew too big for his childhood roots. We will all miss him.

My wife Glenda and I extend our deepest sympathies to the Klippstein family. As a rookie member of the 1965 Minnesota Twins I had the fortune of having Johnny as my roomate on all road trips. He never once failed to introduce me to his numerous fans and friends around the country and genuinely made me feel very comfortable and welcome. At team reunions or alumni golf outings over the years he would always seek me out and have that great smile and warm handshake ready. He was a true gentleman. I am fortunate to have known him.

My thoughts and prayers go out to the Klippstein family. I remember as a Sophomore in High School going to the Cub games and waiting after the games for Autographs. I still have a picture of Johnny Klippstein my girlfriend took back in 1953 when he was signing my Autograph Book for me. What a nice man he was and and I always thought he was so good looking. I KNOW the Cubs will win now, as they have a VERY special person up there cheering him on. I just wanted to share these thoughts with his family as I have always remembered him.

Sincerely,

Mary Jean Kennedy

Dear Klippstein Family,

When I was a kid who went to many Cub games and afterwards sought autographs, John was always there sitting in his car signing autographs until the very last kid had left.

He was really nice to everybody and I never forgot his kindness to all.

John Klippstein was truly a great representative of the Chicago Cubs! Too bad there aren't more athletes like him.

I met John for the first time several months ago when I was doing my Eucharistic Ministry at the University of Illinois Hospital. I remembered that name from when I used to attend Cub games back in the early 50's. What a joy it was to meet him and what a delightful person he was. My heart goes out to his family.
