John Pearson Obituary

John Darius Pearson, 95, beloved husband, father and grandfather passed away on January 25, 2022 due to complications of COVID-19. He was preceded in death by his parents and five siblings. John has left behind his wife of 46 years Debra, two daughters Phoenix, Sydney and Dwight his adopted son. Two sons from a previous marriage John-Gary and Bobby-Joe Pearson. There are nine grandchildren two of the youngest are Hayden age 5 and Johnny Roman age 4 that are being raised by John and his wife. A long time resident of Lake Forest, he began and actively ran Pearson Fence Company for 40 years. Born in Anniston, Alabama in 1926, he joined the Armed Forces in 1944 and served 4 years while stationed in Germany. Upon his return he moved to the Midwest where he eventually started the Pearson Fence Company serving the North-shore. The success of his business was through his honesty, a handshake, quality service with his Southern charm and of course his "one-of-kind cap laden with pins and slogans depicting his journeys and memoires. John was devoted to his family and also a devotion to all wildlife. At his business storage yard John befriended discarded cats and feral cats who found refuse in the wood piles. He mobilized vets to provide spay and neutering for those who sought refuge. He fed and gave them names. Each day when he began his day, they would arrive by the sound of his car and voice. In his passing to ensure their care was onward and consistent his youngest daughter Sydney has secured safety and a forever home at the Fat Cat Rescue located in Wadsworth, IL where they will run free with shelter on six acres and fed daily. John will be remember forever by how he touched the lives of others, always lending a helpful hand, being a man of his word and best of all his gift of gab with his wonderful stories that captivated those fortunate enough to encounter him. He will truly be missed by all. It was not his wish to have a public service but rather a celebration of his life that will be forthcoming. For those wishing to celebrate his life and service we ask that any contributions be directed to the future education of his young grandchildren Hayden and Johnny Roman. The John Pearson Memorial fund FBO Hayden and John Roman which has been established at First Midwest Bank, using the following link to donate: https://gofund.me/7716583d. The Pearson Fence Company will remain in business and will continue to operate under the guidelines that John Established. Info: Wenban Funeral Home (847) 234-0022 or www.wenbanfh.com

It was baseball in my early teens that brought me together with the Pearson family. I am proud to say that soon I was one of those "Punk Rat Kids" Mr. Pearson affectionately (I hope) called us.
About 40 years ago my wife Colleen, and I were driving the scenic route off the beaten track through central Florida out in the real boondocks. It was lunchtime so we stopped at an old small town cafe for some local color and cuisine. The waitress took our order and shortly thereafter the owner/cook came out to converse. In his deep South Southern accent, he said that from my accent, he could tell I was from the Chicago area. I said I was from Waukegan. He immediately asked, "Do you know John Pearson?" Not knowing whether I should, or not, I said yes and we had an pleasant conversation.... and a great lunch. Mr. Pearson was knows far and wide. I was lucky to have been one that did know him.
