John Ranz, age 66, passed peacefully on March 25th, 2017 at Lutheran General Hospital. He is survived by his wife, Jane, son Gregory & wife Sandy, brother Rodney, & sister Judy + families. Born and raised in Gleview, IL, John graduated from Glenbrook South High School in 1968 and Northeastern University with a degree in Psychology. I knew John thru his cousin in law Ken Fedesna, who introduced us many years ago probably at Ken's Fox Lake summer resort. John was a friendly man who also forwarded many dramatic photos of military vehicles and operations which inferred John's great respect and love of the military. John also casually helped me out a couple time in my work for a petrochemical company in the proper selection of steels for projects. I kind of though of him of the Man of Real Steel! He was generous fellow who I will miss seeing at Fox Lake, as we all will. My condolences to Jane and the family.

I met John when he was sixteen years old. i auditioned for a rock band as the lead singer, and John was the critic/manager. He pulled up a chair right in front of the microphone and asked me to sing "Purple Haze." i was told the band wanted a girl lead singer, like Jefferson Airplane. I had prepared "White Rabbit" and "Somebody to Love." I tried my best at Purple Haze, and then just gave it up. John said, "That was awful." I said, "Well, then you sing it and show me how." John kind of sputtered and said, "What else can you sing?" I sang White Rabbit and the rest is history. Haymarket Square was born. John became our manager and we became great friends for over 50 years. I will miss your smile, your words of wisdom, John, but most of all, I will miss you.

I am very sorry for your loss. In the late 60's I sold John a very sad looking 1942 Harley and asked him to promise to restore it. He did and did it magnificently. He was an honorable man.

Dave and I are very sorry to read of John's passing. He was indeed one of a kind and provided me with an opportunity to sell for Regol G for almost 8 years - He showed a great degree of trust in me and fairness in his dealing with me as a representative for this unique company.
Many in our industry will be saddened to know he's gone.
Brilliant and larger than life most days, he will be greatly missed.
We are thinking of you, Jane, and hope your memories of John will be of comfort in the coming days.

To Jane and the entire family, my deepest condolences. I have known John for many years, and although we did not see each other much in our later years, he was a true friend. Even when he had health issues himself and needed a cane to walk, he made sure to come to my Mother's wake in Glenview, which touched me deeply. I also have a fond remembrance of the golf trip to Myrtle Beach with John and Jim. He shall be sincerely missed, and Jane and Greg, you will be in my prayers.
