This is the notice I sent to all staff. Karen asked that I post it here.
To All;
Unfortunately there are times when I have to share news I wish I didn't. After a long fight with liver disease Ken passed away early this morning. He fought a very tough fight we thought he could win. He definitely tried.
All of us shared this fight with him and saw the ups and downs, sometimes daily. He cared so much about his Affy Tapple family, particularly his customer service team. Even on his most difficult days, Ken would show up to his office to make any contribution he could. I would take several people to convince him everything would be OK and to get to the doctor's office. He never wanted to let them down.
It's not fair that one of the good guys has been taken from us. But in the true Affy Tapple tradition we march ahead and celebrate the years he was part of our family. Even now, in a more peaceful place, Ken's probably wondering who's answering the phones.

I was so sorry to hear that Ken has passed away. He was truly a good man. I worked with Ken at Partner Industrial, and was his assistant manager the last few years we worked together. We worked well as a team, and we even want to Olathe to visit for a few days when we were merging computer systems. I'm glad I got to know him. He was a good person to work for, but I believe he was an even better family man. My condolences go out to his wife & daughters.
