Robert Albright Obituary

Robert J. "Bob" Albright, 90, of Arlington Heights, IL, passed away on August 22, 2022. Beloved husband of Dorothy (Freestone); loving father of Kelly Cater (David) and David; devoted grandfather of Lindsay and Jack. Born and raised in Chicago as the proud son of the late Raymond and Anna (Johnson) Albright. Dear brother of the late Gwen Collier Riggs and Betty Kellner. Bob and Dorothy met at Senn High School, started dating during their sophomore year and were married for 66 years. Bob was a U.S. Army veteran serving in the Korean War. Former educator, coach and mentor to countless students at Glenbrook North High School. Voracious reader and supporter of his alma mater Northwestern University (Go Cats!). Loved his daily wildlife drives and had a weakness for sweets, especially caramel lattes, licorice and anything chocolate. The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to the caring and supportive staff at JourneyCare Hospice. In keeping with his wishes, no services will be held. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the charity of your choice.

Coach Albright was my freshman baseball coach at Glenbrook North. I remember him telling me to sit and down and be patient on a bus trip to a freshman baseball game forG.B. North. To this day I'm still inpatient !!!

Coach Albright, was my first coach at Glenbrook North High School. I had Mr. Albright my freshman year football. We became good friends after my Graduation in 1966. He with Coach Samorian and Bob Watt and Jack Leese made me become the best athlete and person I hoped i would become. I remember he and the other coaches would stop me and Rob Rennix during 9th period gym class, and made us go to McDonalds in Glenview and pick them all up chocolate milkshakes. He was an outstanding friend and better person. I am so sad to hear the news of him passing. Thanks coach for pointing me in the right direction. God Bless ! Ken Kozil class of 1966

As I noted previously a year ago, Coach Albright played a very important role in my high school experience as I see from all the other comments, he did for so many others. I did get the chance to meet with him for lunch many years ago when I happened to see him on the television news as a witness to a crime. This was coach. He always got involved in whatever he thought was important. His players/students were always important, and he always looked after them. I will never forget what he meant to me.

Dorothy Albright, and her late husband Robert, have been good friends of Georgia and Jack Leese for nearly 67 years. Bob and Jack both attended Northwestern University as they both received their B.S. and M.A. degrees at the same time. They taught and coached together at Glenbrook High School in Northbrook, IL. Bob became the Department Chairman of Physical Education
until he retired. Everyone should have a Bob Albright in their life as he epitomized how a person should be as an outstanding example of a husband, father, teacher, coach, and friend. While he is gone he will be long remembered as the person many of us have learned from as we go through life. Georgia and I wish to convey our condolences to Dorothy, as well as to their two children, Kelly and David. We wish you well.
With sympathy,
Georgia and Jack Leese
and friend.

Sounds as if Coach Albright had a great full life. Loved by every student who he taught and coached. He was a wonderful coach who knew that if treated one with respect and knowledge would get everything possible from his students and players. He was a breath of fresh air when I met and played on his teams. Coach Albright was the best. I would follow him anywhere anytime. My condolences to his family but also how fortunate they were to have Coach in their family

When I think of Glenbrook H.S. Coach Albright always comes to mind. He greeted everyone with a smile and when my freshman year grades were just so-so he sought me out, was supportive, and let me know I had a friend on the faculty.

Bob was a terrific boss/co-worker, but more importantly a trusted friend. He quietly went about his work, not caring who got recognition for the many outstanding young people who passed thru the years. He was part of the most outstanding faculty and staff I ever saw.

I first met Coach in 1959 as a freshman football player. He was for me, one of the most influential teachers and coaches having a major impact on my high school experiences at GB. Beyond sports, he always made sure I kept up with my studies and that I would stay focused on my goals and future. I did that because he required it of me and for that, I will forever be thankful.

Some coaches are impersonal and distant, and then there was Coach Albright...a kind, gentle and soft-spoken teacher/coach of young men who most found no difficulty in following his guiding instructions. I remain grateful for Bob speaking into my life starting during my freshman football and wrestling endeavors; an encouraging force.. Bob will most likely continue coaching me from Above.

I entered GBN mid term Jan 72. While participating in Mr. Albright´s PE class I was playing one on one basketball vs a starring player on the freshman team. I was schooling him to the point that Mr. Albright went got Freshman coach Mr. Helfrich who asked me to join the team. Having moved from NC to Northbrook it gave me a "home" in my new school. My mother always said she should have sought out Mr. Albright and hugged his neck for getting me involved. He was a wonderful coach and man.
