Robert Sherman Obituary

Robert I. Sherman, age 63, passed away on Saturday, December 10, 2016. He was born on April 2, 1953 to Arthur and Shirley (Biller) Sherman. He married Celeste Bugay on November 26, 1978 in Northbrook. Robert loved flying and was working on obtaining his private pilot license. He was proud of building aircrafts and the parts he made for them. When he liked something he was passionate about it. He was very passionate about separation of church and state issues. But, most of all, he loved his family. He is survived by his wife, Celeste Sherman; his children, Richard (Shaun Lang) Sherman, and Dawn Sherman; his brother, Jonathan (Fran) Sherman; his sister-in-law, Shelley Sherman; as well as several nieces, nephews, and very close friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; and his brother, Jeremy Sherman. A memorial gathering will be held on Thursday, December 22, 2016 from 3-9pm at the Schaumburg Regional Airport, 905 W. Irving Park Rd., Schaumburg, IL 60193. For more information, call the Schneider, Leucht, Merwin & Cooney Funeral Home at 815-338-1710, or visit our website at www.slmcfh.com.

Bob is still being missed. The more we live in our fake, plastic times, his larger than life personality lives forever.

I don't even know if the family can still get these, but I hadn't heard from Rob in awhile, even after several emails. Until I was telling a friend about him at work who was interested in a plane & found his obituary. - No different than anyone else who lost a friend right? Just someone who knew Rob, what a great guy he was and how committed to his family & in love with Ms. Celeste. Except I am different, I am surely one of a few men who was friends with such a devout, prolific, even as I dubbed him "notoriuos" athiest; because a pastor a small church in western Kentucky, 3/4 mile up a dead end road where Rob attended several times,we called each other friend, we openly shared our beliefs with respect and admiration, all centered on our love of things flying. Rob was a great man, dear friend and I mourn at the loss for his family. And for what it's worth, I know he would apprecaite my saying so, God bless those who loved him who remain behind. Blue skies & tailwinds!

I never saw R.S. soar except with science, facts and a keen intellect. His secularism/atheism/love for state and church separation will be remembered for its fierceness as well as its provocation. If history has a right side, I stand with my late and dear friend -- Clint Harris

Dear Celeste & family, I was So sorry to hear of this horrible accident that took such a wonderful enjoyable fun loyal person out of our lives. It was always enjoyable for me to share local band concerts with you & Rob. My warm heartfelt thoughts and sympathy are with you & your family with best wishes for you in the future. May his fond memories help ease the heartfelt pain we are all going through now. That Rob...always good for keeping us on our toes. It didn't matter that my friends and myself we were polar opposites when it came to the Word of God. I admired how he would bring you to Peoria from time to time and I always enjoyed our time together. Love you Celeste. I am praying for the Lord to give you comfort and strength during this difficult time.

We still cannot believe Rob is gone. I grew up with Rob, during high school, and knew he was one of the most smartest persons I have ever met. I remember when he me Celeste at a bank were they both worked and were also neighbors on Sheridan road in Chicago. Then they moved to Buffalo Grove and had their first child Rick. If I remember correctly it was on my mother's, Alice, bless her soul, birthday. And a few years later Dawn came along. Time fly fast as now she's in Med school.
Tears are running down my face writing this. We were all blessed with his short time on Earth.
To Celeste, Rick and Dawn; may you always remember him.
Love,

Helen and Arnie Ami

Rob was friend ( and I don't mean it in a BS facebook category but in the original plain and boring English term). He will be missed but I think his ideas will live on at least in my heart.
