Roy Kellerman
September 20, 2010
Even though I haven't seen Uncle Roy for 35 + years his memory is quite vivid. Roy was a true character and a faithful Roman Catholic. With his passing all the siblings of my deceased mother Mildred are now all together in heaven. My deepest sympathy to Aunt Doris and the entire family. May God bless our extended family in the Chicago area. Sincerely, Roy Francis Kellerman
Jim Little

Greg - my name is Jim Little and I used to work with your Dad at H&B. It's been many years since I've seen your Dad but I did stay in touch for awhile. He was famous for his penmanship and remembering to send birthday cards. It's so ironic because I often wondered how he was doing and I googled his name tonight and saw that he had just passed this month. He was an amazing guy. Very unique. I was sort of the young buck with the company and I took over your Dad's territory in Chicago after he retired. I was young and impatient and we didn't always agree, but I had so much respect for him. We got along very well even when we were arguing, which all of us at H&B did quite a bit of. We were all so close it was like a family and the arguing at company get togethers was just part of the fun. I tell people to this day that your Dad had a funny thing he would say at times. He would say, "the next thing you say is wrong:. I spent quite a bit of time with him and I've been to the house you grew up in. A really gorgeous house. Your Dad was a world class provider. He was very smart with his money. I wish people could see his penmanship. It was perfect because he wrote using a ruler. And he spoke with a very distinctive, stacatto style. And then I knew that after he retired he became a full time college student for many years. I have no idea how many degrees he ended up earning. I used to stay in touch with him for a number of years after he retired and he would tell me funny stories about arguing with his teachers. He had so much life and business experience to share. And your Dad was not shy about sharing his opinion. And I know that he had a wonderful, life long partnership with your Mom. Whenever I would ask about her your Dad would say, "yes she's doing fine, still running Marshall Field." You and I have met on a couple of occasions. I recall quite clearly that your Dad called you Dude. I'm sure this was long before Jeff Bridges made the name famous in The Big Lebowski. I remember that you had a side business with your him making those wonderful benches made from Louisville Slugger bats. I wish everyone could see them because they were true pieces of art. I wonder how many of those you made? They were in a lot of sporting goods stores that I went into around the territory after your Dad retired. Anyway, as I say it is a total irony that I thought of him tonight. He had a very rich and full life and was a big part of the H&B legend. 50 years at the company. He will be remembered by so many people in Louisville. I remember people used to say "Fine Boy Roy" because your Dad would often say of someone, "he's a fine boy." I regret that I'm discovering this just a few weeks too late to come and pay my proper respects. I surely would have. Like I say, we were all so close at H&B that I consider Roy Kaelin part of my extended family. Maybe we can get together some time this summer and raise a toast to a wonderful man. Please share my condolences and genuine fond memories of your Dad with the entire Kaelin family. Sincerely, Jim Little
