Darlene A. Goettl, 64, of Chippewa Falls, after a lengthy and valiant struggle with cancer, died Thursday, April 10, 2008, at the home of her sister Debbie and Gary West. She was surrounded by family and friends.
She was born Oct. 19, 1943, in Chippewa Falls, the daughter of Bernadine (Boos) Goettl Larson and the late Walter Goettl.
Darlene graduated from McDonell High School and attended the University of Wisconsin n Eau Claire. For many years she was employed in the office at Mason Shoe. After that she was employed at Uniroyal in Eau Claire and Alabama. She also owned Guthrie's Sport Shop and retired from TTM Technologies due to illness.
Darlene enjoyed growing flowers and vegetables, cooking, baking, fishing, hunting, snowmobiling, four wheeling, bowling, softball and traveling. She enjoyed watching her nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephew participate in sports and music events.
She is survived by: her mother and stepfather, Bernadine and David Larson; brother, Wally Goettl; sisters, Vonnie (Jim) Custer and Debbie (Gary) West; nieces, Kelly and Jackie Custer, Tessa (Shannon) Beebe; nephews, Seth Goettl, Jordan and Logan West; great nephew, Hunter Custer, great nieces, Laken and Tavyn Jones; special friends, Faye Reiter and Patrick Gangl, and pets, Reggie, Tabby and Jesse.
Darlene was preceded in death by: her father, Walter Goettl; her paternal grandparents, Michael and Catherine (Bohl) Goettl; her maternal grandparents; Joseph and Elizabeth (Zwiefelhofer) Boos; and several aunts, uncles and cousins.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, April 14 at St Charles Church, Chippewa Falls. Reverend William P. Felix will be the celebrant for the funeral mass. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery, Chippewa Falls.
Family and friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday, April 13 and until 10 a.m. Monday at the Horan Funeral Home in Chippewa Falls. There will be a Christian Vigil Service at 7 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
She is loved dearly by her family and friends known as "Applesauce" by her great nieces and nephews. Her sense of humor, her willingness to lend a hand, and her spunk and zest for life will be missed by all.
