Devon S. Shackleton, age 31, of Chetek, formerly of Knapp, died Tuesday, June 21, 2005, at Lakeview Medical Center in Rice Lake.
Devon Scott Shackleton was born Jan. 22, 1974, in Menomonie to Don Shackleton and Jacalyn Johnson. He was raised in the Knapp area and attended Lucas and Knapp grade schools and Menomonie High School. Devon also attended Chippewa Valley Technical College for sheet metal work. He then worked as a building contractor throughout western Wisconsin.
Devon is survived by his parents, Don Shackleton and Jackie Davis of Knapp; step-father, Daniel W. Davis of Knapp; a sister, Shawna Davis of Knapp; his maternal grandmother, Lorraine Johnson of Knapp; his stepgrandparents, Corrine and Rex Stockman of Wilson; a special friend, Debbie Gunnufson of Chetek; aunts, uncles and cousins; and other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Perry and Genevieve Shackleton; maternal grandfather, Earl Johnson; stepgrandfather, Daniel C. Davis; an aunt, Jeanne Witt; and an uncle, David Perry Shackleton.
Devon never had a lot of material things, but did the best with what he did have. He enjoyed trips to the Dakotas and collected rocks and wolf artwork. He loved the several German Shepherds he had.
Through Devon's short time with us he fought a lot of demons, but always knew and loved God. He had a smile that could warm your heart. Always caring and loving, he would do anything he could for anyone. He was truly a "free spirit" and will be deeply missed by all who knew him. We love you Devon.
Funeral services were 1:30 p.m. Saturday, June 25, 2005, at the Menomonie Alliance Church with Pastor Stan Shackleton officiating. Burial was in Forest Hill Cemetery in the town of Stanton.
