Dannie Sue Vaughn, 84, passed away on January 30, 2025, in Tallahassee, Florida, after a 10-year battle with Alzheimer's Disease. She was born on December 14, 1940, in Cottonwood, Alabama, to Dewey and Nina Mae Jones.
Sue grew up in Cottonwood, where she graduated from Cottonwood High School in 1959 as Salutatorian of her class. Upon graduation, she attended the Free Will Baptist Bible College and Peabody College for Teachers (now part of Vanderbilt University) in Nashville, Tennessee, where she pursued a degree in Education. While at college, she continued her lifelong passion for music as she toured the southern US with the college choir and was one of their lead pianists.
Sue married Bobby Vaughn on November 4, 1962, in Cottonwood and they remained happily married until his death in 2022. In 1963, they moved to Tallahassee and started their life and family, and in 2000 moved to Crawfordville, Florida. Sue served as pianist at Lakewood Baptist Church for 35 years and organist at Lake Ellen Baptist Church for nearly 10 years. Sue cherished her Adult Sunday School class at Lake Ellen Baptist and the many friendships made there. Over her life, she touched hundreds of people through teaching Sunday School classes, leading Bible Memory Association groups, coordinating annual donations to the Children's Leukemia Society, and leading local Good News Clubs for elementary students.
Her greatest joy and influence, however, was within her family, where she was a devoted mother, mother-in-law, and grandmother. She was compassionate, kind, patient, and sincere. A dedicated follower of Christ, she showcased His love to everyone with whom she came into contact.
Along with her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband, Bobby Vaughn, her daughter, Paula Sheryl Vaughn, and her brothers, Bennie Frank Jones and Jeff Jones.
Leaving to cherish her memory are her two sons, Stephen Vaughn (Lisa) of Tallahassee and Greg Vaughn (Danelle) of Crawfordville; grandchildren Chase Vaughn (Kim), Emma Vaughn, Olivia Vaughn, Ben Vaughn, and Bradley Vaughn; her brother Mickey Fletcher (Dorothy); her sisters-in-law, Brenda Jones and Rhonda Jones; and her nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Sue's celebration of life will be held 11:00 a.m. Thursday, February 6, 2025, at Lake Ellen Baptist Church in Medart with burial at the church cemetery. Family will receive friends at 10:00 a.m. prior to service.
