William "Wayne" Simmons passed away June 26, 2022 in Ocala, Florida. He was born December 5, 1965 to Coy Simmons (deceased) and Freddie Lee Simmons.
Wayne grew up in Hernando, Florida, and was competitive in various sports. He played little and senior league baseball. He attended Inverness Middle and was a 1984 graduate of Citrus High School. During high school, he participated and lettered in football, basketball and track and field.
After high school, Wayne served in the United States Army. Wayne was employed as a security technician at Re-entry Center of Ocala, Florida, (RECO) until the time of his death.
Wayne is preceded in death by paternal grandmother, Pearl Simmons; maternal grandparents Reverend Mose Waters and Deaconess Clara Waters; nephew, Melvin "Luke" Simmons, Jr.
Wayne leaves many to cherish his memory: mother, Freddie Lee Simmons; brothers Ronald Graham, Saint Petersburg, FL, Melvin Simmons, Hernando, FL, Alan Simmons (Evelyn), Gainsville, FL, Pastor Robert Simmons, Hernando, FL, Bruce Simmons (Vivian), Crystal River, FL; sisters Diane Simmons, and Melanie Simmons, Inverness, and FL and Juana Simmons, Hernando, FL. Others to cherish his memory include hosts of nieces and nephews, one godson Desmond "Milk" Simmons; godparents, Reverend Allen P. Henry and Marion Henry, Tallahassee, FL; god sisters, Zandra Wilson and Ebbye Thompson, Tallahassee, FL, Ida Griffin and Nevelda La Condre, Inverness, FL. He leaves behind many mournful colleagues and scores of lifetime friends.
