Gabriel Coorey Obituary
Cincinnati - COOREY, Gabriel A., husband of the late Verna (nee Sharp) Coorey. Dear father of John (Mary Lee) Coorey, Robert Coorey, Kathy (Andy) Howe and Karen Schulte. Grandfather of John and Alex Coorey, Sara Howe, Jessica and Emily Schulte. Great-grandfather of Jackson and Juliana Coorey. Brother of the late Francis, Mike, Abie, Ray, and George Coorey, Julia Volz, Clara Coorey and Marie Linville. Also survived by many nieces and nephews. Gabe was considered the "Mayor of Corryville", letter carrier for the United States Post Office for 40 years, ticket taker for the Reds, Bengals and Music Hall and coached his sons in basketball and softball. Gabe passed away on Wednesday, July 11, 2018 at the age of 96. Visitation at Hodapp Funeral Home , 6041 Hamilton Ave, College Hill 45224 on Sunday, July 15 from 4-6 PM. Mass of Christian Burial at St. Anthony of Padua, 2530 Victory Pkwy, Cincinnati, OH 45206, Monday at 10 AM. Donations may be made to the VA Hospital or to the church. Just reading this notice much too late. My mom and dad operated the Hitching Post in Hyde Park. Gabe and his crew were frequent visitors. My family knew Gabe well from his ticket-taker days also. He was always a great person to run into. One of a kind. I'm sure he is checking tickets up at the pearly gates now!

I am so sorry for your loss. Gabe was a wonderful man. I worked with him at Hyde park post office as his skipper. My memory of him was when the fire department carried him across Observatory Ave. when there was a water main break. He made it into the enquirer and he always got a lot of laughs. I am happy to have known him.

Johnny and Bobby, my deepest condolences on your Dad's passing. Many of my relatives have told me that if someone lives 85 plus years we should "celebrate a life well lived" at the same time that we mourn our loss. Your Dad brought joy and happiness to many. His crooked smile and generous nature were always evident in how he treated others. Thanks for sharing him with all of us. (Our mutual friend, Ernie Dansbury, called from Cleveland to remind me of the many times Reds games were "free" if we found the right gate.) Take care.
