James "Jim" Harkness Jr. , beloved husband of Margot Stoehr, died Feb. 12, 2013 at age 83 from complications of Alzheimer's. Born in Cincinnati, OH on May 23, 1929 to James H. and Martha Stoehr. Survived by children, James III (Amy), Katherine Mohrlang (Durell) and Thomas and his stepsons, John (Meredith) and Philip Ficks. Also leaving sister, Diggie Funke (Bill), and six grandchildren, James IV, Sydney, Madeline, Gretchen Stoehr, Machaela and Devon Mohrlang. He graduated from Walnut Hills High School and earned a BS in Engineering from Brown University. He served as a pilot in the Air Force and achieved the rank of 1st Lieutenant during the Korean War. He returned home to Cincinnati, becoming president of the Cincinnati Floor Company and later Robbins Inc., a hardwood flooring and sports surfaces manufacturer. A mentor and leader in business, he served as president of the Cincinnati Chapter of Gyro International, the Wood and Synthetic Flooring Institute, the National Oak Flooring Manufacturers Association, and the Maple Flooring Manufacturers Association. Jim was a loving husband, father, and grandfather, and a good friend to many. He was also an avid golfer, skier, and sailor and enjoyed spending time in Northern Michigan and Boca Grande, FL. Memorial Service: 11am, February 23rd at Pleasant Ridge Presbyterian Church. Will remember Jim as a sweet and gentle man who loved to walk the beach in Florida and rest up at Pickerel Lake. But mostly as a man who was generous and kind to our son Michael.
