Matthew D., beloved son of JoAnn Heekin McDermott and the late Stephen P. Heekin, step-son of Robert T. McDermott, devoted brother of Karen (Tom) Cassady, Tina (Tom) Walter, Lisa (Michael) Milhoan, Amy (Gary Gleason), Steve (Mary Jo), Tony (Joan), and Greg Heekin, & the late Terri Murrie, also survived by 18 nieces and nephews, and generous friend of many. May 19, 2014. Age 51. Residence Owensville. Memorial Mass of Christian Burial at Guardian Angels Church Mt. Washington Thurs. JUNE 5, at 10:30 AM. Friends may visit at the Church Thurs. from 9:30-10:30 AM. T P WHITE & SONS Funeral Home serving the family.

May God bless all the Heekin family. When i see the pictures of Matt, i along with many have to just grin as i think of my favorite Matty stories. Matt even made sealing driveways in the humid summers fun. It takes a special person to make others smile and that was a gift Matt certainly carried with him for more than 50 years. I will miss that grin but am blessed to have the memories. God bless, Love Howie

Karen, Steve, Tina and Family...Wishing the Heekins peace to bring comfort, courage to face the days ahead, and to hold the memories of Matt that will live in your hearts forever. He is now an angel, along with Terri and Mr. Heekin. You can imagine he and Terri, divulging the antics and funny stories that children keep from their parents, and Mr. Heekin saying "What???? You're kiddin' me RIGHT?"

I ran out of gas at the bottom of the Heekin's driveway when I was 16. It was Matt who came out and instead of driving me home to face my Dad, he took me down to Clark's Gas Station, borrowed a gas container and paid for my gas. Over the next 35 years, whenever I saw Matt, he would laugh and ask me how much gas I had in my car. Losing Matt, makes our Class of 1981 a little smaller, much sadder and his laughter and smile will always be missed. Our thoughts and prayers are with all of Matt's family.

As Amy and Lisa have shared, Matt's smiles, sometimes mischievous, will be what I remember most about him through the many years we spent together at Maddux, AMS and AHS. I would like to extend sincere condolences on behalf of the Class of 1981, Matt's graduating class.

I have been struggling with what to say to honor Matt and with putting it in the past tense. He is still so alive in my heart. Matt was such a unique, loving and generous guy. I feel so fortunate to have been friends with him for so many years. He could make me laugh to the point of tears. My thoughts are with his family. Prayers to the Heekin family and friends. Matt will be missed by many including myself. He was a dear friend when I needed one, helping me after I was hurt in car accident with my dad. He drove me to my Dr. appts. for 6 months when my father couldn't and would call and take me to lunch to cheer me up. His kindness and concern meant the world to me and my family. Matt was a caring loving man that put others needs above his own. I will miss him more than he will ever know. Bless Matt and his family to help ease their pain during this difficult time. I really loved him.
