Ruby Buchanan Obituary
Bakersville - Ruby Buchanan passed away peacefully on the evening of July 2nd, 2014 after a long and courageous battle with cancer. She as ready to go and sure of her new home.
Ruby was born to Lon and Nell Pittman in Mitchell County on January 21st, 1927. She was married to her beloved husband Howard for 69 years. She was a member of the Cane Creek Freewill Baptist Church and the Hawk Community Club.
Preceding Ruby in death were brothers: Jack, Fred, Wade and Sonny; and her sister, Ruth. She is survived by daughters: Annette, Judy and Gayle; her sons, Michael and David. Also surviving are her sister, Jean Freeman; daughter in law, Susan; sons in law, Jerry and Jim. "Mamaw" had 10 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren.
Funeral Services will be 4:00 pm Saturday, July 5th, 2014 in the chapel of Henline-Hughes Funeral Home with Larry Greene and Chris Rathbone officiating. The family will receive friends from 2:30 pm until the service hour. Burial will follow the service in the Cane Creek Cemetery.
The family requests that memorials be made to Hospice and Palliative Care of the Blue Ridge, 236 Hospital Drive, Spruce Pine, NC 28777.
Ruby's family would like to especially thank Katy Briggs who loved and cared for Ruby and became a treasured member of our family. Ruby was very blessed to have many very special friends who visited faithfully and stayed the course with her through the past months including Roseta, Barbara, Wilma, Brenda, Doris, Bruce, Delaney, Margaret, Betty and Jamie. She loved you all.
