Barbara Ann Johns, 84, of Nanticoke, passed away at her home on Wednesday, Feb. 8, 2023.
Barbara, a lifelong resident of Nanticoke, was born Feb. 26, 1938, the daughter of the late John and Stella Ripski. She was a member of St. Faustina Kowalska Parish, Nanticoke, and was a lifelong member of St. Stanislaus Church until its closing. She graduated from Marymount High School and Wilkes-Barre General Hospital School of Nursing and also attended the University of Scranton.
She was employed as a registered nurse by Wilkes-Barre General Hospital, Hampton House and St. Stanislaus Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. In addition to working as a nurse at St. Stan's, she was assistant administrator and in-service coordinator. Barbara was also employed as a veterinary nurse/assistant at the Nanticoke Animal Hospital for 20 years.
She enjoyed working in her garden, drawing, painting, photography, hiking and taking care of her beloved pets. She will be remembered as a caring, loving and devoted wife, mother and grandmother.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, Bernie, on Oct. 18, 2022.
Left to cherish her memories are her son, Dr. David and wife, Dr. Marie; son, Karl and wife, Lynne; and granddaughters, Marie, Emily, Lily and Karly.
Her presence will be greatly missed by all those she touched with her life.
The family would like to thank Dawn and Theresa from Allied Services Hospice Care Team for the compassionate care they provided and Dr. Jacqueline Cain for the years of care she provided Barbara and Bernie.
To honor Barbara's wishes, private funeral services were held on Feb. 13 from Dinelli Family Funeral Home, Nanticoke. A Mass of Christian Burial in St. Faustina Kowalska Parish, Nanticoke, with the Rev. Brian VanFossen officiating, followed by services in Holy Trinity Cemetery, Nanticoke.
