Martha Soulliard Obituary

Martha Joanne Soulliard ended her journey on Earth on Monday, July 10, 2023, as she passed peacefully into the arms of God.

Martha was born Jan. 23, 1933, in Harrisburg. She was the daughter of the late Charles Liguori Soulliard and Dora Murphy Soulliard of Harrisburg, and was the 11th of their 12 children.

Martha graduated from Harrisburg Catholic High School in 1951. She entered the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary religious order in Chester County, and as a Sister of IHM, Martha received her bachelor's degree from Immaculata College. She attended Temple University to enhance her studies in social work. Much of her life as Sister Maria Jacinta was spent caring for children in the Catholic Home Shelter in Philadelphia and later as administrator of Guardian Angel Home in Philadelphia. After many years in religious life, Martha left the convent and began a career as a Pennsylvania State employee. After retirement, she continued her volunteer work with churches in the Catholic Diocese of Harrisburg.

Martha was preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Loretta E. Boone; Dorothy C. Schuler; Eleanor G. Soulliard (Sister Mary John SBS); Agnes M. Soulliard (Sister Mary Amalia RSM); Mary Patricia Cusson; Gertrude E. Soulliard; Margaret T. Anderson; Virginia B. Gill; Dolores A. Schuhart; and her brother, Charles E. Soulliard.

She is survived by her brother, Richard Soulliard, Hershey; and many loving nieces and nephews.

A celebration of her life and Mass of Christian Burial will be held in the future.

Arrangements are under the direction of Richard H. Disque Funeral Home Inc., 2940 Memorial Highway, Dallas.
