Richard Lear, 40, of Erie, formerly of Mountain Top, passed away peacefully surrounded by friends and family Tuesday, June 7, 2022, at UPMC Hamot, Erie.
He was born Sept. 8, 1981, in Wilkes-Barre. Rich dreamed of being a comedian. He loved to entertain friends and family with jokes and impersonations.
Richard graduated from Crestwood High School. After high school, he spent some time in the armed services. Richard enjoyed hard work and later worked with many different contractors, mainly roofing.
Preceding him in death were his father, Craig A. Lear; and uncles, Robert and David Lear.
Surviving are his mother, Helen B. Lear; sister, Janel Sperry and husband, Kyle Sperry; niece, Maddie Sperry; nephews, Kyle Sperry Jr.; and Joshua Sperry; and a large extended family.
Richard enjoyed golfing and watching his nephew play ice hockey. He was also a huge New York Yankees fan. Rich had a big heart and was always there for someone in need. In testament to his generous spirit, it was Richard's decision to be an organ donor. His final act of kindness was to give the gift of life through organ donation. Rich showed us that every life can be a meaningful one. His donation saved lives.
His friends and family will miss his fierce loyalty and wicked sense of humor. They would like to remember Richard as someone who, in addition to saving lives themselves, also inspired others to do the same. Please honor him by registering as an organ donor at www.core.org.
The family held a private service and requests that donations in Richard's memory be directed to CORE, 204 Sigma Drive, Pittsburgh, PA 15238.
