Robert "Bob" Baron

Robert "Bob" Baron of Scranton died Sunday, May 26, 2013, at the Jewish Home, Scranton. He and his wife the former Dolores "Dolly" Kornfield celebrated thier 57th wedding anniversary on March 18.

Born in Scranton, he was the son of the late Maurice and Fannie Goldstein Baron. Bob was a graduate of Scranton Technicial High School. Prior to retirement, he served as the loss prevention manager at the Kmart in Edwardsville and in earlier years he was employed as a food manager for the S.S. Kresge Co., in Passaic, N.J., Bridgeport, Conn., Scranton and Wilkes-Barre. He was a member of the Beth Shalom Congregation, Scranton, and had served on its board for many years.

He was a former member of the ODD Fellows, the Scranton Lodge of Elks, and the Scranton JCC bowling league and was a member of the National Holocaust Museum in Washington, D.C. Bob enjoyed raising tropical fish, golfing and was an avid fan of the New York Mets, the New York Giants and also was a great supporter of the Humane Society. He was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother and uncle, who was a kind and gentle man who truly loved his family especially his grandchildren and all man kind.

He had a wonderful sense of humor and truly loved animals, especially his dog, Suzy. Bob will be missed by all those who were blessed to have know him. Also surviving are two daughters, Melba Baron Cohen and husband, David, Shavertown; and Ronda Baron Neider and husband, Thomas, Eagleville; two grandchildren, Ben and Eve Neider; a sister, Betty Pachter, Long Island, N.Y.; and nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Sylvia "Toots" Spitzer; and two brothers, Melvin and Leonard Baron.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. today (Monday) at the Carlucci-Golden-DeSantis Funeral Home Inc., 318 E. Drinker St., Dunmore, with services by Rabbi Yisroel Brotsky.

Interment will be in the Dalton Jewish Cemetery. Friends may call today from noon until the time of service. Calling hours during the period of Shiva, which will be observed in the Community Room of Webster Towers, 500 N. Webster Ave., Scranton, will be from 7 to 9 p.m. today, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday through Thursday, and from 2 to 4 p.m. Friday.
