Doug Perine Obituary

Lake Wabaunsee-Doug Perine, 60, passed away Thursday, September 15, 2011 at Stormont Vail Hospital. He was born January 31, 1951 in Wamego, the son of Jack Dee and Mary Jane Bledsoe Perine. Doug graduated from Wamego High School in 1969. He attended Kansas State University and graduated from the University of Kansas School of Pharmacy in 1973. Doug had worked at Jim's Pharmacy in St. Marys before moving to Manhattan where he worked for Rexall Drugs at the Blue Hills Shopping Center and for Revco Discount Drugs. He opened Doug's Pharmacy in Rossville in 1977 and later added the Flower Mart; he also had owned St. Marys Pharmacy in St. Marys for several years. Doug had lived in Rossville for many years before moving to Lake Wabaunsee. He was a member of Sigma Chi Fraternity from 1969 until 1971. He also was a member of KPHA. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother-in-law, Roger Nash. On August 5, 1972 he was united in marriage to Rita Baumchen at St. Marys. She survives of the home. Other survivors include a son Jason Perine, Rossville; a daughter, Jen Perine, Auburn; his sister, Susie Jane Nash, Phoenix, AZ; and 7 grandchildren. Funeral services will be at 9:00 A.M. Monday, September 19, 2011 at Heritage Hall, One Expocentre Drive, Topeka. Interment will be in the Rossville Cemetery, Rossville. Doug will lie in state and the family will receive friends from 4:00 until 6:00 P.M. Sunday, September 18, 2011 at Piper Funeral Home in St. Marys. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Rossville City Park Improvement Fund and sent in care of Piper Funeral Home, 714 Maple St, St. Marys, Kansas 66536. Ron "Bubba" and I thought a lot of Doug. He was always a happy man and always had a great idea about something..He was a wonderful man and we will truly miss him. I am so sorry to hear about your loss. In the short time I got to know your family I saw how special you are to eachother, and how your family is so close. The road ahead will be hard and different but always remember to turn to eachother during the hard times and look back at all the good times. So sorry I was unable to attend the service.

To my dearest family, some things I'd like to say...
but first of all, to let you know, that I arrived okay.
I'm writing this from heaven. Here I dwell with God above.
Here, there's no more tears of sadness; here is just eternal love.

Please do not be unhappy just because I'm out of sight.
Remember that I'm with you every morning, noon and night.
That day I had to leave you when my life on earth was through,
God picked me up and hugged me and He said, "I welcome you."

It's good to have you back again; you were missed while you were gone.
As for your dearest family, they'll be here later on.
I need you here badly; you're part of my plan.
There's so much that we have to do, to help our mortal man.

God gave me a list of things, that he wished for me to do.
And foremost on the list, was to watch and care for you.
And when you lie in bed at night, the day's chores put to flight.
God and I are closest to you....in the middle of the night.

When you think of my life on earth, and all those loving years
because you are only human, they are bound to bring you tears.
But do not be afraid to cry; it does relieve the pain.
Remember there would be no flowers, unless there was some rain.

I wish that I could tell you all that God has planned.
But if I were to tell you, you wouldn't understand.
But one thing is for certain, though my life on earth is o'er.
I'm closer to you now, than I ever was before.

There are many rocky roads ahead of you and many hills to climb;
but together we can do it by taking one day at a time.
It was always my philosophy and I'd like it for you too...
that as you give unto the world, the world will give to you.

If you can help somebody who's in sorrow and pain,
then you can say to God at night......"My day was not in vain."
And now I am contented....that my life has been worthwhile,
knowing as I passed along the way, I made somebody smile.

So if you meet somebody who is sad and feeling low,
just lend a hand to pick him up, as on your way you go.
When you're walking down the street, and you've got me on your mind;
I'm walking in your footsteps only half a step behind.

And when it's time for you to go.... from that body to be free,
remember you're not going.....you're coming here to me.

Rita, Jen & Jason- We're so sorry to hear about Doug. All those years thru youth sports with Jen and Jason will never be forgotten. Doug was such a great Dad and Husband. Rita and the kids always came first. We only knew him thru sports but I can only imagine he was the same with the people in Rossville.
